Big news for Fine Arts Education!

🎨🎭🎶 BIG news for Georgia students and fine arts education!

Yesterday, Governor Kemp signed SB 556 into law, expanding HOPE Scholarship rigor recognition to include qualifying advanced fine arts coursework in dance, music, theatre, and visual art.

This legislation supports students pursuing rigorous fine arts pathways while strengthening connections to Georgia’s growing creative industries. Thank you to the educators whose feedback helped inspire this effort and to our state leaders for supporting opportunities that prepare students for life.

Next week we kick off our 2026-27 Marching Band season!
Color Guard clinic days are open to any rising 8-12th grade student, and no prior experience is necessary.
All Band members AND prospective color guard members in 8-12th grade are invited to attend mini camp on Wednesday!

This week the Band and Choir wrapped up the school year with fabulous Spring Concerts. We are so fortunate and blessed to work with such talented students who love making music with each other everyday. Thank you all for another outstanding year!

***Due to expected rain this weekend, Music & Motors has been moved to Saturday, May 2. See you then!***

The Tiger Pride Band program invites everyone to our annual Music & Motors Car Show on Saturday, April 25 from 10am-2pm at DCHS! Please help us spread the word!
We are also still accepting vendors as well as entrants for the car show, chili cook-off, and yard sale!

Yesterday, we wrapped up hosting 2026 Large Group Performance Evaluation for GMEA: Georgia Music Educators Association District 9. 3 days, 41 ensembles, and over 2,400 student musicians!

During this event Bands perform 3 selections and are evaluated by a panel of expert judges. Following their concert they sight read a new piece with only 6 minutes of study time! Students not only have a change to showcase their musicianship, but demonstrate their skills and abilities in new setting. The ratings and feedback helps us grow and continue moving forward.

Go Band! Hard work pays off. Music Education matters.

Congratulations to the band on their SUPERIOR rating today at their annual Large Group Performance Evaluation. The band has received the highest ratings for the past six consecutive years! Their dedication to high level of performance and artistic musicianship is an outstanding accomplishment which makes all of us proud.
Thank you for your commitment to music, your peers, and Dawson Bands! Bravo and job well done!
