We'd like to echo the sentiments of the GA-GOP in congratulating the winners of the recent primaries and thanking all those who came out to vote.

As you can see in the image below there will be several run-offs as no single candidate in those races achieved the 50% threshold of votes cast to be declared the winner.

Although they are fine-tuning the details (which we will bring to you if/when they change), the Dawson County Election Board of Elections is holding Advanced Voting for the run-off elections from June 8th through the 12th, (a Monday through Friday period), 8 AM to 5 PM at 96 Academy Ave in downtown Dawsonville. The general run-off election day is June 16th. Voting will take place at the two polling stations, Rock Creek Park (145 Martin Rd, a.k.a. Hwy 9 South) for Precincts 3 and 4 (East and South respectively) and 96 Academy Ave for Precincts 1 and 2 (West and Central respectively.) Voting takes place from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Thanks again to all those who voted. Let your voice be heard again in the run-offs!!!

Let's make this primary and the election in November "too big to rig" just like we did in November 2024!!!

The Dawson County Republican Party will be holding its monthly meeting, Monday, May 18th, at the Professional Building at 28 Main Street, near the Board of Education building, in Dawsonville. The meeting starts at 6:00 PM with a social "hour," followed by the official meeting which begins at 6:30 PM. Refreshments are provided via donation.

Our special guests this month are Philip Milam and Chris Gaines. Mr. Milam is running for the GA District 51 Senate seat currently held by Steve Gooch. He is a native of north Georgia and has had a career in law enforcement as a probation officer, officer of the courts and prosecuting attorney. What he is NOT is a career politician! His campaign emphasizes his pro-Trump, pro-life and and pro-Second Amendment stance. He wants to eliminate Georgia's income tax and bring more jobs to north Georgia. Please use the links below to access his campaign website and page.

Chris Gaines, our District 2 County Commissioner, will be discussing the SPLOST VIII "tax," approximately 80% of which is paid by visitors to our county, not county residents. “SPLOST” stands for “Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.” It pays for a wide range of projects in Dawson County, from emergency vehicles to recreation facilities. The SPLOST "Penny tax" was lasted approved by Dawson County voters in 2021 and is expected to generate $60 million by the time it expires in June 2027. Your "Yes" vote will extend this income stream.

You will be able to submit your questions for both our speakers to our secretary (at the membership table) during the meeting's "social hour." Hope to see you on Monday, May 18th at our monthly meeting.

To date, the voter turnout during Advance Voting has been low (1202 out of 24,978). Many may think this is simply a mid-term election year but nothing can be further from the truth. Every four years, during primaries Georgia's registered voters start the process of electing officials to represent us locally, down in Atlanta and down in Washington, D.C. This year the emphasis is local and within Georgia. These elected officials will make decisions concerning economic development, public education, utilities and infrastructure, public policy and overall governance to name a few. The effects of these decisions are very, very real.

As many of you know, voting during the primary helps narrow the field, some of which have many candidates this year. The winner of the primary/run-off (if necessary) then runs to represent their party in the November 3rd general election. The winners of this election will determine the path Georgia takes in the years to come.

If you're concerned about Georgia's future then you need to vote and have your voice heard. As we saw in the 2024 election, participation matters! Don't let others decide Georgia's future by sitting out of the Advance Voting, May 19th primary and November 3rd elections.

The GA-GOP is hosting the first-ever Rodeo 250 as part of a statewide celebration of the country's 250th birthday. This event takes place at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agriculture Center in Perry, GA on Saturday, June 20th, from 3 to 10 PM. In addition to the rodeo, the event also includes family attractions, Georgia vendors and a lot of "red, white and blue" programming. Doors open at 2 PM, the rodeo starts at 8 PM.

Josh McKoon, State GOP Chair, noted the day's events are a tribute to families, veterans, farmers, business owners and volunteers who are the foundation of the party's grassroots base. The summertime show perfectly blends patriotism with political organizing as we head toward elections in November.
