As we close out September and Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we are reminded that su***de prevention is important at every age.

Adults and older adults may experience significant life changes, including caregiving responsibilities, retirement, loss, changes in health, grief or social isolation. Staying connected and taking time to check in with ourselves, family members, friends and neighbors can make a meaningful difference.

In this article, Gwen Hawn, MS, RD, LD, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent with UGA Extension Hall County, shares ways we can recognize warning signs, stay connected and support the mental health and well-being of ourselves and those around us.

A simple call, invitation or check-in can help someone feel remembered, valued and supported.
