The library will be hosting a Seed Swap event, next week, from 4-6 pm.
Bring seeds you’d like to share, or simply come and take some to try in your own garden. Members of the Georgia Mountain Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer expert guidance, answer your gardening questions, and share helpful tips for planting and growing in our region.

A couple of weeks back, we presented to Riverview Elementary School's 5th-grade class. We talked about the microscopic world and why it matters to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Thanks for having us, Riverview!

For America's 250th anniversary, let's treat every day like it's Earth Day! We can all make small, mindful changes. And when we do this together as a community, it has a BIG impact!
🌎
Reduce:
• Mindful consumption — choosing products with easy-to-recycle or biodegradable packaging
• Buying in bulk to save money and reduce packaging waste
• Meal planning to reduce food waste
🔄
Reuse
• Reusable products — water bottles, shopping bags, and reusable straws (plant-based, stainless steel, reinforced glass, etc.)
• Replace plastic wrap/small bags with a beeswax wrap or silicone food covers
• Reuse old containers — egg cartons are perfect to start seedlings, and repurposing items like plastic tubs, yogurt cups, and glass jars can be used for storage, planters, or crafts!
♻️
Recycle
Recycle plastics, cardboard, aluminum, motor oil, tires, and more at our Transfer Station (most is free to recycle!) https://www.dawsoncountyga.gov/293/Solid-Waste-Recycling

We are SO blessed that our County Commissioners made the Greatest American Cleanup Proclamation for Dawson County 👏👏👏 KDCB took the pledge to:
🚯 Organize three new community cleanups to inspire our citizens of all ages to work together to remove litter from our streets, parks, waterways, and public spaces;
♻ Host two reduce, reuse, recycle or beautification events each year, enhancing our community's appeal through reduced waste, public art, planting trees, flowers, and creating, improving or maintaining green spaces; and
🎉 Hold one event to celebrate our progress and achievements to help America look her best for her 250th anniversary celebration.

Visit our web page and take the pledge with us to make a positive impact on our community: https://www.dawsoncountyga.gov/628/Greatest-American-Cleanup-Pledge

We're grateful that our Public Works take live Christmas trees after Christmas and all through January, which is helpful if you're like some of us who keep trees around for a while 😅

Have a live Christmas tree? Our Public Works is here to help! Bring Christmas trees to the Transfer Station, free of charge, 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday, at 946 Burt Creek Rd. Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Our Co-Chair, Tessa Webb (Public Works), gave an educational presentation to nearly 70 school kids at Riverview Elementary. She taught students about our group, environmental protection, recycling, etc. And Dawson County Government's Stormwater Manager, Robbie Irvin, gave a presentation on stormwater management too.

Thanks, Tessa and Robbie!

A couple of weeks back (11/24), we partnered with Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) for their Meet Up & Clean Up event to clean up an illegal dumpsite a few minutes from the Dawson County line, off of Anderson Lake Road. Forsyth County hired a subcontractor to remove large debris/trash, 🗑 collecting more than 26 tons! KFCB and KDCB removed remnant litter, including a futon. Forsyth County has now locked up the site 🔒⛓

This is a reminder that, regardless of an invisible county line, this is all of OUR community. So we will continue working together in each other's community because it takes a village to clean up after those who dumped the trash.

We had a GREAT turn out for Tire Amnesty Day, helping 413 residents drop off their tires FOR FREE (unless there were rims attached). We completely filled the trailer and then some!
We asked a simple question: how many people are in your household? This was to determine the minimum number of residents we positively impacted by properly recycling these tires.
THANK YOU to all the residents who brought these tires to help clean our community. We also provided free food to workers and volunteers and got some residents who were wanting some, so sorry we didn't hand out food, but we had limited supplies 😅 Next year, we'll look at our budget to see if we can offer some refreshments to residents as well. |
