The Probate Court, a division of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, is a trial court with limited jurisdiction as granted by the Ohio Revised Code. The Probate Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the administration of estates and trusts, appointment of guardians for incompetents and estates of minors, adoptions, issuance of marriage licenses, name changes, commitment of the mentally il

l and various other actions. The court also approves settlements in wrongful death actions and minor injury actions. The Probate Court is empowered with more than 200 responsibilities pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code.

Last night a couple of our investigators hosted Coffee & Conversations at the Dayton Metro Library -Vandalia Branch.

It’s an educational and support group for guardians. Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Toward Independence, Inc., UMCF, Resident Home Association and Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, please let your guardians know they’re welcome to come, participate, and drink coffee!

Our next meeting is August 27th at the Dayton Metro Library - Huber Heights Branch from 5-6 P.M.

This week Centerville High School Alum, Sariah is wrapping up her summer internship with the Montgomery County Probate Court through YouthWorks Montgomery County, Ohio. We are grateful for the time she spent learning from our team.

This week, she had lunch at Original Flying Pizza - Downtown Dayton with Judge Brannon and Chief Magistrate Wiseman, giving her the opportunity to pick their brains, ask questions and receive advice as she prepares for her next chapter.

Today Sariah surprised Court staff with Bill's Donuts as a small token of appreciation for those who helped mentor her throughout the summer.

This fall, she will attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she plans to major in public affairs and work toward her goal of becoming a medical malpractice attorney.

Thank you, Sariah, for your thoughtfulness, curiosity and hard work. We wish you the very best! 💙 Go Elks, Go Vols 🙌

A joyful day at Probate Court. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨

While Probate Court is often associated with some of life’s more difficult moments, it also has the honor of being part of very happy moments, too.
