Please be aware, tonight is caucus night in MN. In Dayton the two main parties have caucuses at the following locations at 7:00 tonight.

For those that don't know what a caucus is, a layman's explanation would be....it's the start of the political process of for each party to see who will appear on the ballots this fall. It begins tonight with meeting your neighbors in a location that is run by the party. You will take a straw poll for such offices as governor, US Congress, State offices and State legislature. You will also decide if you want to take the next step, which is to run for delegate to the next step (conventions later this spring) where the party will officially endorse a candidate to be on the ballot.

Even if you choose not to become a party delegate, I HIGHLY encourage you to caucus tonight. It's a chance to get to know your neighbors better, and in the City of Dayton, with SO many new residents, it's a great opportunity.

Yesterday, one of our officers was working a speed enforcement detail in the city and stopped a driver for going 115 miles an hour on South Diamond Lake Rd. The drivers actions were not only dangerous for himself and other motorists, but there were two juveniles in the vehicle as well. Please slow down and know that decisions we make in the moment can have lasting consequences. The Dayton Police Department was lucky to receive a grant from the State of MN for extra speed enforcement, so you will see officers out stopping motorists speeding throughout the city. We will also have extra DWI patrols out for the next few weeks for Minnesota’s TZD (Toward Zero Deaths) campaign. Please slow down and drive safe.

Our goal is to set the Fastest Known Paddle Time down the 2,341 mile Missouri River, in June 2026, in a 4 person canoe. The current record is 33 days, 18 hours and 45 minutes set by Verlen Kruger and Steve Landick on May 2-June 4, 1980.

Hey Dayton. We just want to extend a huge THANK YOU! to some residents that dropped off these items to the police department for the officers. Officers have put in a lot of hours over the last few weeks and knowing that the residents were thinking of us enough to put all this together means a lot. It’s a privilege to serve the citizens of Dayton. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather! Call us if you need us.
