Sutro Tunnel Restoration Project The Friends of Sutro Tunnel non-profit is working to preserve this significant part of Nevadaโ€™s mining history by restoring the Sutro Tunnel & Site.

Dedicated to preserving & sustaining the historic Sutro Site, honoring its remarkable mining history while transforming into a vibrant destination for tourism, education, & recreationโ€”a treasured landmark for visitors of all ages & generations to come. The goal of the project is to not only preserve the site's historical integrity but to also make it safe and accessible for visitors. Phase One of

8/31/1877- The Lyon County Times announced that โ€œ๐‡๐จ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐“๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ซโ€ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ๐ญ๐จ๐ง ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ž โ€œ๐Œ๐ข๐ค๐žโ€ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐’๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ the following Thursday.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys history, working with people, and being part of a unique historic site. The role includes helping with day-to-day site operations, coordinating volunteers, assisting visitors and tours, and helping us continue to grow what weโ€™re doing at Sutro.

We are excited to share that two more interpretive kiosks are now installed at the Sutro Tunnel site, one telling the story of ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ: ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ง๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป and another sharing the history of our ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ฒ.

These beautiful signs are part of a larger collection generously donated by Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support of Friends of Sutro Tunnel.

Every one of these historical kiosks adds another piece to the visitor experience. They allow people to stand in the very places where this history happened, look across the landscape and historic buildings that remain, and better understand the people, places, and stories that made Sutro what it was.
