#ᴛʙᴛ 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟒, 𝟏𝟖𝟕𝟔 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝:
The Sutro Tunnel is now in a distance of 13,238 feet. The quantity of water now running out of it in 127 miners' inches. The rock in the heading is porphyry of a aniform character, and is very difficult to drill and very hard to blast.

We love seeing historic sites across the Comstock getting the attention they deserve. Be sure to check out this great story from KOLO about the ongoing restoration efforts at the Donovan Mill in Silver City. 👏

The mill’s origins go back to 1861, when it opened as the Kelsey Mill during the mill-building craze of the Comstock Lode era.

Joel Childers, who visited the Sutro Tunnel site with Dr. Garrett in April, photographed the area on film using a Chamonix 4×5 view camera, while the panoramic photograph was captured using a custom-built camera made from an early 1900s Kodak Autographic camera.

We would like to thank Joel for visiting the Sutro Tunnel site and for sharing these beautiful photographs.
