As graduation season comes to a close, we would like to congratulate the Class of 2026 on their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments.

We would also like to recognize five outstanding graduates who chose to spend part of their high school years serving the greater Dayton community as firefighters and emergency medical responders. While balancing school, sports, activities, and personal commitments, these individuals responded to emergency calls at all hours of the day and night, while continually training to improve their fire and EMS skills.

All five completed the Firefighter I Academy and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course. In addition, two of them went on to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Their commitment to service, learning, and community is something to be proud of, and we are honored to have been part of their journey; past, present and future.

Congratulations to Bryce, Korri, Kaden, Ivan, and Josh! We wish you all the best as you begin the next chapter of your lives. Thank you for your service to the Dayton community and for helping make our district stronger.

This week and next week, Dayton Fire District crews are out testing rural draft sites throughout the district. We are able to accomplish these important checks in part because of a Summer Seasonal Staffing Grant from the Oregon State Fire Marshal, which provides funding for fire districts to hire seasonal personnel during the busy summer months.

These privately owned water sources play a critical role in fire protection for our rural communities. When hydrants and municipal water systems are unavailable, firefighters rely on these draft sites to provide the water needed to fight fires and protect lives and property.

Regular testing helps ensure our equipment is functioning properly, verifies site accessibility, and confirms that these water sources will be ready when needed most.

A big thank you to the property owners who partner with us by allowing access to these valuable resources. Your support helps us keep our community safe and prepared.

🚒 A Weekend of Training and Regional Cooperation 🚒

This weekend, Dayton firefighters joined neighboring fire districts for two valuable training opportunities aimed at strengthening our ability to serve and protect our communities.

On Saturday, firefighters from across the region participated in a wildland fire training exercise near the Lafayette Watershed protected by Dayton Fire District and coordinated by Carlton Fire District & Oregon Department of Forestry. The hands-on training focused on wildland firefighting tactics and coordination as we prepare for the upcoming fire season.

On Sunday, Dayton Fire personnel participated in a regional water supply drill hosted by Yamhill Fire District. The training emphasized establishing and maintaining reliable water supplies in rural areas where hydrant systems may be limited.

Both training events highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and teamwork among fire agencies. By training together, we improve our ability to respond effectively to emergencies, support one another during large incidents, and ensure we are ready to protect our communities throughout the summer months.

Our firefighters are better prepared today because of the training conducted this weekend, and we appreciate the partnership and dedication of all the agencies involved.

🚒 LIVE FIRE TRAINING NOTICE 🚒

On Saturday, May 30th, Dayton Fire crews, along with several other Yamhill Co Fire agencies will be conducting wildland fire training exercises in the area near the Lafayette watershed. Training will take place during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

Residents may see smoke and emergency vehicles in the area throughout the training, which will start at 8am at Washer Elementary School before moving to the training grounds. This is a planned training event and there is no cause for alarm.

These trainings are critical to keeping our firefighters prepared and ready to respond safely and effectively to wildland fire in our community and across the state.

Thank you for your understanding and support of your Dayton firefighters. 🇺🇸🔥

Whether you’re hitting the road, firing up the grill, or spending time on the water, don’t let this Memorial Day weekend turn into a horror story.

🚤 Wear a life vest when boating or participating in water sports
🔥 Never leave your campfire unattended, and make sure it's completely extinguished before leaving the area
🍔 Keep grills away from homes, decks, and dry grass. Do not leave them unattended
🚲 Wear a properly fitted helmet while riding a bike, scooter, or skateboard
🚗 Designate a sober driver

We hope you have a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
