Tommy wanted to learn to ride a bicycle, but seizure and sensory issues made it difficult to ride on his own. So his Service and Support Administrator, Brittany Schwaberow (pictured at left), reached out to May We Help, which creates adaptive equipment to help people with disabilities gain independence and pursue their passions. Several months later, Tommy received a bicycle specifically adapted for his needs—one with a pull bar that can be attached to his parents’ bicycle, as well as cuffs to keep his feet on the pedals and a special seat. Now Tommy and his family are able to enjoy riding their bikes on the local bike trail and even around town together, whether it be to the park, the library, the nearby pool, or even Grandma’s house. It's summer fun for all! Montgomery County, Ohio Ohio Association of County Boards of DD Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities

This piece from Dayton 24/7 Now does a nice job of showcasing the new universal changing table at Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. We were so happy to provide the funding and guidance for this project, and appreciate the folks who lead, work and volunteer at Dayton's own National Park Service site. It is a true gem and we hope you will all make time for a visit there soon! The Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park now has a universal changing table! We were so excited to work with the leaders of the Park to enhance accessibility by providing the funding and guidance for its installation. Located at the Wright Cycle Company Complex at 16 South Williams Street in Dayton, this table is in a lockable family restroom in the Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center and is accessible via elevator. The table is electronic, height-adjustable and can hold people up to 400 pounds. Best of all, it offers a clean, hygienic space where personal care needs can be met for everyone from babies to adults. We hope this table will allow many more folks to enjoy this gem among our National Park sites and take inspiration from our local heroes, the Wright brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar! Today our Early Intervention Department bids goodbye to one of its most experienced staff. Elisa Bechtel, a MCBDDS Early Intervention supervisor, spent 36 years coaching families and caregivers to help their infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities reach their potential. Studies show that the work she and early intervention specialists perform has a very real impact on the development and success of children, not just in school, but later in their lives. We wish Elisa (pictured at left, with her supervisor) a Happy Retirement and all the best in the future!
