🚨 Fire Prevention Reminder | May 28, 1977 🚨
On this day in 1977, the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire in Kentucky claimed 165 lives and injured more than 200 people—one of the deadliest fires in U.S. history.
This tragedy was fueled by overcrowding, limited exits, and a lack of fire protection systems, turning a night of celebration into a devastating loss.
🔥 Takeaway:
Fire codes exist for a reason—occupant limits, clear exits, and working fire protection systems save lives.
Let’s continue to learn from the past and prioritize safety in every assembly space.

Central Lyon Fire recently had the opportunity to spend time with students at Silver Springs Elementary School during Career Day, teaching them about careers in the fire service. We had a great time sharing what we do and answering questions from an amazing group of future firefighters! 🚒🔥

💧Water Main Flushing in the Sutro Area💧

Dayton, Nevada – In a systematic approach to improve water quality, Lyon County Utilities will be conducting water main flushing on May 27-28, 2026 in the Sutro area in Dayton, Nevada.

During this process, sediment that has collected on the bottom of the water mains may be stirred up causing discolored water. The sediment in the water is the result of the minerals that have settled to the bottom of the water mains during the year. The sediment is not harmful.

Please check the water in your washing machine prior to doing laundry to be sure it is running clear as the discolored water may stain light-colored clothing. You may also experience intermittent low water pressure or no pressure during this time.

Allow for 4-6 hours upon completion of flushing for water to clear up. If after this time it has not cleared, please contact Lyon County Utilities at (775) 246-6220. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Central Lyon Firefighters had the honor of participating in the 9/11 memorial stair climb this year. This year marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, where 343 firefighters were lost but never forgotten. Our firefighters climbed 110 flights of stairs to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who were lost that day. Thank you to for supplying our firefighters with scba packs for the climb & for supplying us with their tools. #343

Central Lyon County Fire Protection District leadership stepped away from the fireground and into a different kind of challenge on Monday, April 27—one built on teamwork, creativity, and a little spaghetti. Fire Captains and Chief Officers participated in a five-hour leadership workshop to finalize the District’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, marking the culmination of months of collaboration across the organization.

The day kicked off with a hands-on team-building exercise where crews competed to build the tallest freestanding tower using spaghetti, tape, and a marshmallow—putting communication, innovation, and problem-solving skills to the test. The winning team constructed an impressive 33-inch tower inspired by the Eiffel Tower.

This workshop represents an important step forward, as District leadership establishes a strong foundation to guide future strategic planning and continue delivering high-quality service to the Central Lyon County community.
