Longstreet Elementary is a small school located on the beachside in
Daytona Beach. It is nestled in a beautiful suburban setting between the Halifax River and the Atlantic Ocean. The school encompasses a large geographic area serving students from Seabreeze Blvd. Longstreet opened in 1954 and serves approximately 400 students. Longstreet is a Title I School with 74% of the students qualifying for

free or reduced lunch. It has a minority population of 21%, English Speakers of Other languages (ESOL) population of 5%, and a mobility rate of 54% with a large homeless population. A major renovation was completed in the fall of 2008 which included a new art/music wing, consistent outer facings on all wings, new windows, doors, cabinetry, and flooring. Each classroom has modern technology in the form of data projectors and audio enhancement. Our students also have 1:1 technology access at Longstreet. This small school prides itself on being a community school. Part of the secret to the success of this wonderful school is the active parent and community involvement. This involvement includes a very active PTA which sponsors many events throughout the school year. 📚 Look at these reading detectives!

Mrs. Haller’s 2nd graders put on their thinking caps this week and worked hard on close reading!

They practiced slowing down, paying close attention to the text, and finding those just-right details that help them understand what they read.

Our little readers had lots of turn-and-talks, partner shares, and “prove it with the text!” moments as they identified relevant details, discovered the central idea, and shared their thinking using text evidence.

So much thoughtful reading, talking, teamwork, and learning happening in 2nd grade! We are so proud of these growing readers! 🌟

Math and the Media Center!

Mrs. Shone’s and Mrs. Miller’s amazing 1st graders brought ALL the smiles and love to hands on math and reading in the Media Center today!

These Cardinals were busy putting their math skills into action with hands-on activities designed to help them master their benchmarks. From problem-solving to practicing important math concepts, learning was active, engaging, and FUN!

There’s nothing better than seeing students excited to learn, collaborate, and grow—and doing it all with a smile!

✨ Hands-On Learning in 5th Grade! ✨

Mrs. Hales’ 5th grade class had a blast taking their classroom outside!

Students completed Common Experiment #1: Hoop Gliders, putting their problem-solving skills to work while experimenting, measuring, testing, and making adjustments.

The lesson was full of engagement, teamwork, collaboration, and FUN! 💙 Seeing students learn by doing, working together, and being excited about science and math is what hands-on learning is all about!

Mrs. Parlett’s class had a wonderful time exploring the new space, trying out the flexible seating and discovering all the new seating options. Most importantly, they found a cozy spot and enjoyed a good book! 💙📖

✨ What an AMAZING week on campus! ✨

This week was filled with so many wonderful moments of hands-on learning, high engagement, collaboration, and discovery! Our Cardinals were actively learning, creating, problem-solving, and working together in ways that made learning come alive.

We are so grateful for each and every one of our Cardinals and for the energy, curiosity, and joy they bring to our campus each day. Watching them grow, learn, collaborate, and step outside their comfort zones reminds us just how incredible they are!

Each day, our Cardinals continue to soar to new heights! We are so proud of all they are accomplishing and can’t wait to see where they fly next!

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting Trunk or Treat and Bingo for Books on Wednesday, October 21 from 6:00-7:00 PM!

This will be a fun-filled evening and a wonderful opportunity to connect with our Cardinal staff, students, and families while enjoying games, treats, books, and community fun. You won't want to miss it!
