"If I'm ever struggling, I will talk to a trusted adult."

This response came from a student who completed The Facts. Your Future. curriculum, and it's a good reminder of why connection matters.

Young people need adults they feel comfortable turning to, especially when something is difficult to talk about.

Being that person doesn't mean you always know what to say. Sometimes it simply means being someone who will listen.

Ask yourself: Does the young person in my life know they can come to me?

YIN gives high school students a place to connect, share ideas, build leadership skills, and make a difference in their community.

We'll be at the Holly Hill Police Department (1065 Ridgewood Ave) and we'd love to see you there! Bring your unwanted or expired medications for safe disposal.

Every October, Talk About Your Medicines Month encourages older adults and their providers to have conversations about their medications so they can reduce medication risks, maximize benefits, and stay safe. This is the perfect reminder to learn more about what you’re taking, why you’re taking it, how to take it safely, and what to do with medications you no longer need.

We encourage you to take some time this month to:

▪Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your medications.
▪Store medications safely and securely.
▪Safely dispose of medications you no longer need.

Also mark your calendar for DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 24 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications.

There's a big difference between:

"What's wrong with you?"

and

"I've noticed you seem a little different lately. How are you doing?"

Both may come from the same place of concern, but they probably won't lead to the same conversation.

When you're worried, start with what you've actually noticed rather than what you think might be happening. Ask a question, give them time to answer, and listen before jumping in with advice.

You don't need the perfect opening line. You just need one that leaves room for an honest answer.

Our October Coalition Meeting is tomorrow, and we’re collecting Halloween candy for the youth at the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center! If you’d like to contribute, please bring your donation to the meeting.

Candy should be:
✅ Individually packaged candy
✅ Mini-sized treats
✅ Sugar-free options are welcome
🚫 No lollipops, please!

High school students — our next YIN meeting is coming up!

The Youth Impact Network (YIN) is a group for high school students who want to meet new people, use their voices, build leadership skills, and make a positive impact in their community.

This month, we're getting creative! Students will design T-shirts for the CCA Advocacy Day T-shirt Design Contest, using their creativity to share a message that matters.

Plus, we'll have snacks, goodies, activities, and service hours available!
