Work-based learning opportunities such as paid internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing experiences are a powerful tool for helping students choose a fulfilling career path.

Last school year, Volusia County Schools Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin asked the regional business community to provide 350 paid internships for students. Local businesses didn't just meet that goal; they exceeded it by a large margin. The Daytona Regional Chamber encourages all businesses to explore how they can support student learning in the workplace because building the future workforce is one of the most important issues businesses will face for the foreseeable future.

As a new school year begins, Volusia County Schools earned back-to-back A ratings in the last two years. For the first time, both years were highlighted by 100% proficiency, meaning every school in the district received an A, B, or C rating.

In addition to not having a single school rated D or F, the students of Volusia County Schools showed growth in 11 of 12 metrics measured by the state. This achievement comes despite the required state measurement being higher in each category in year two.

Volusia County Veterans Services, in partnership with NXT Mission, is hosting the Camouflage to Corporate™ Veteran Talent Pool Workshop on September 17 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

This is not a job fair. It’s an interactive, employer-focused workshop designed to help businesses better understand how to recruit, hire and retain veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.

Here are a few photos from last week’s August Community Advisory Group & Board Meeting, held at Daytona Beach Fire Department Station #1!

During the meeting, the group had the opportunity to tour the new Fire Station #1, which replaces the 101-year-old Station #1 on Beach Street. It was a great opportunity to see the new facility firsthand and learn more about how it will serve Daytona Beach and our community for years to come.

A special thank you to the Daytona Beach Fire Department for hosting us, providing the tour, and sharing more about this important investment in our community.
