Do you know how to properly operate a fire extinguisher? Remember PASS:
๐ โ€” Pull the pin
๐€ โ€” Aim at the base of the fire
๐’ โ€” Squeeze the handle
๐’ - Sweep from side to side
Fire extinguishers should only be used when the fire is small, you have a clear escape route, and it is safe to do so. If the fire grows or you cannot extinguish it immediately, get out, stay out, and call 9-1-1.

This Fire Prevention Week, take a few minutes to learn the basics and make fire safety part of your plan.

Prevent fires. Know the plan. Stay safe.

The US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida reports a marginal risk for excessive rainfall in our area through Thursday. This is due to a front that has stalled over central Florida, producing repeated rounds of showers and storms. Total rainfall accumulation of 2-4โ€ is expected and locally higher amounts exceeding 5โ€ cannot be ruled out. This heavy rainfall brings the risk of flooding in low lying and urban areas.
Weโ€™d like to remind our residents and visitors that it only takes a small amount of moving water to create a dangerous situation. Water can hide washed-out pavement, debris, or other hazardsโ€”and conditions can change quickly.

When you encounter a flooded roadway:
- Obey road-closure signs and barricades.
- Never attempt to drive through standing or moving water.
- Turn around and find another route.
- Never assume you know how deep the water is.

Saving a few minutes isnโ€™t worth risking your vehicleโ€”or your life.

Did you know that using the wrong charger can not only damage the deviceโ€™s battery but it can increase the risk of fire? Charging devices properly is so important, here are some safety tips to ensure you and your familyโ€™s safety.

- Never use a broken or damaged charger
- Use the charger that came with the device or a manufacturer-approved replacement
- Check cords and chargers for damage and replace frayed, cracked or damaged equipment
- Never charge devices under a pillow, blanket, or on a bed or couch. Keep them on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape.
- Keep charging devices away from water and other sources of moisture.
- Don't overload outlets or power strips.
- Unplug chargers when they're not needed, especially if the manufacturer recommends it.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ FLOODED ROADS? TURN AROUND.

Heavy rain can cause roadways to flood quickly, and what looks like a few inches of standing water can be much deeper than it appears.

๐Ÿš— Weโ€™re seeing drivers damage their vehicles by attempting to drive through flooded roadways.

Please:
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t drive through standing or moving water.
โ†ฉ๏ธ Turn around and find another route.
โš ๏ธ Never assume you can make it through just because another vehicle did.
๐Ÿ›‘ If barricades are in place, do not drive around them.

Your vehicle can be replaced. Your safety canโ€™t.

The US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida expects the Heat Risk to continue for the rest of the week into the weekend.

We ask the community to practice heat safety by staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. If you have to be outside, drink water frequently and take breaks in the shade when possible. Most importantly, never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle โ€“ even for a moment.

Heat Related Illnesses:

Heat Exhaustion
Symptoms may include heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, and headache. Move to a cool area, drink water, and cool down immediately.

Heat Stroke
This is a medical emergency. Symptoms can include confusion, loss of consciousness, hot/dry skin, or a high body temperature. Call 9-1-1 immediately and begin cooling the person while waiting for first responders.
