It’s Sargassum Season 🌊

It’s sargassum season on Volusia County beaches. Ocean currents bring sargassum seaweed ashore, where it naturally accumulates along the shoreline. While decomposing sargassum can produce a strong odor, it also plays an important role in beach restoration. Volusia County Beach Safety does not remove sargassum because wind-blown sand becomes trapped within the seaweed deposits, helping to rebuild beach elevation and strengthen the shoreline.☀️🛟
