The Daytona Beach Police Department’s social media sites are primarily tools to share information with citizens. We do not view these sites as a way to communicate directly with elected officials or police department personnel. To reduce messages containing hatred, conflict, solicitation, misleading and false information, spam and dangerous behaviors, the police department has decided to turn off

the comment function on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts. The default setting on future posts will be to disallow comments. The public, when viewing a post on Facebook, will see the following message: “Daytona Beach Police Department limited who can comment on this post.”

The limitation is that only the Daytona Beach Police Department can make comments. Unfortunately, Facebook does not allow for a more straightforward message to display automatically. On Instagram and Twitter, the comment function is disabled without a clarifying message. From time to time, the Daytona Beach Police Department may post content to solicit feedback or to poll residents on specific topics. In these cases, comments may be enabled.

Sergeant Adam Webb, End of Watch 9/1/2021
Sergeant Adam Webb contracted COVID-19 and passed as a result of complications from the virus.  Sergeant Webb served the Daytona Beach Police Department and the Daytona Beach community for seven years.  He was survived by his wife, mother, sister, brother and grandmother.
A single rose has been placed on the Memory Plaque of Sergeant Webb.  It will remain there for a week to remind us of the ultimate sacrifice that he gave for the City of Daytona Beach and the Daytona Beach Police Department.

The Daytona Beach Police Department acknowledges the State of Florida’s decision regarding the discontinuation of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) and will fully comply with the plans and guidelines established by the state. ALPR’s have been a valuable resource for our agency and have assisted our officers and detectives on many occasions. While we recognize the benefit they have provided, we will comply with the state’s decision and will continue to follow its direction. All ALPR’s in the City of Daytona Beach have been deactivated and are no longer operational.

Our commitment to protecting and serving the Daytona Beach community remains unchanged.

🚔 Damoun Patterson, former NFL wide receiver who spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots, was arrested in Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach Police Department arrested Patterson in connection with multiple felony offenses, including Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Mischief, and Armed Burglary of a Dwelling. Patterson was booked on the listed charges and remains subject to the judicial process. ⚖️ All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Officer L. B. Hall, End of Watch August 28, 1932

Officer Hall responded to 521 Second Avenue in order to assist another officer with an arrest. As Officer Hall was escorting the suspect to a parked police vehicle, the suspect removed a concealed pistol from his waistband and shot Officer Hall several times. Officer Hall was able to return fire and kill the suspect. Officer Hall was survived by his parents.

UPDATE: On August 24, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Daytona Beach Police Department officers began investigating a reported robbery. Through information provided by the victim, officers identified a suspect, 19-year-old Ian Sylas Garner, and attempted to make contact with him inside a hotel room at 640 S. Ridgewood Avenue.

As officers attempted to make contact, they were met with multiple rounds of gunfire from inside the room. Three officers discharged their fi****ms during the incident. Two additional occupants inside the room were able to safely exit and were taken into police custody.

Officers established a perimeter around the room, and the DBPD SWAT Team ultimately made entry. Garner was located inside the room suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains alive and is receiving medical treatment.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident. Daytona Beach Police Department detectives continue to investigate the underlying robbery and related circumstances.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the incident report is not currently available for release. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and as it can be released in accordance with Florida law.

There is an active scene in the 600 block of S. Ridgewood Ave. involving a barricaded subject and reports of shots fired.

Heavy rain can cause roadways to flood quickly, and what looks like a few inches of standing water can be much deeper than it appears.

🚗 We’re seeing drivers damage their vehicles by attempting to drive through flooded roadways.

Please:
🚫 Don’t drive through standing or moving water.
↩️ Turn around and find another route.
⚠️ Never assume you can make it through just because another vehicle did.
🛑 If barricades are in place, do not drive around them.

Your vehicle can be replaced. Your safety can’t.

Last week, DBPD Academy 08 had the opportunity to visit the Blind Services Division to learn more about how to effectively interact with and assist members of our blind and visually impaired community here in Daytona.

Our future officers gained valuable hands-on knowledge, including how to approach, communicate with, and safely guide individuals who are visually impaired. They also learned how technology is helping people with disabilities navigate their daily lives and maintain independence.

Training like this is an important part of becoming informed, compassionate, and effective officers. When our officers are better informed, they can make better decisions, ultimately improving the safety, security, and service we provide to our entire community.
