See below for important information regarding Christmas tree recycling!

Please make sure to remove all decorations and lights before placing your tree at the curb.

Christmas Tree Recycling begins this week for Township residents. Instead of specific days for collection, there will be roving crews over the next two weeks collecting trees from the curbside.

If you have a tree you wish to recycle, please place it on the curb outside your home. Please ensure ALL decorations and lights are removed before placing your tree at the curb.

Below is the Township’s statement regarding the Prospect Medical Holdings, their bankruptcy, and the YMCA. The meetings and court proceedings have been ongoing and often tedious, but the Township and Board of Commissioners remain fully engaged every step of the way. Both I and the Board strongly believe that protecting the health and safety of our residents must always come first, while also recognizing the vital role the YMCA plays in our community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or would like to discuss further.

Statement by Jeff Rudolph, President of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners

On Sunday evening at approximately 4:00 pm, personnel from the Springfield Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in an isolated section of the rear parking lot of the Shops at Springfield Park (Woodland Ave and Baltimore Pike). Our law enforcement personnel arrived to find a victim who was in serious condition from a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported by emergency services personnel to the hospital.

The shooter fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Detective Cutcliff and Detective Nutley from the Springfield Police Department are leading the investigation with assistance from the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division (CID). I have full confidence that Springfield Police Chief Jeff Shull and the members of our police department will do everything in their power to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. Springfield Township has no tolerance for this type of violence in our community and it is our intention to prosecute the shooter to the fullest extent of the law.

I understand that residents have many questions about the incident. While we are limited in what we can share during what remains an active criminal investigation, I want to assure residents that we firmly believe there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Individuals with any information that they believe would assist in the ongoing criminal investigation are urged to contact Detective Cutcliff or Detective Nutley at [email protected] or [email protected] or by phone at 610-544-1100.

THANK YOU to the Springfield Township employees for their hard work this week to keep our streets safe! Make sure to check out the post below for more information about the upcoming weather too!!

Many thanks to the Springfield Township Public Works Department as well as all other departments involved, for doing a fantastic job handling Tuesday’s mixed-precipitation event. The freezing rain and low temperatures/refreezing only exacerbated the conditions, but township roads are clear and dry, for now…

With the impending snowstorm’s accumulation totals increasing, we’d like to remind residents of a few items that will assist in clearing township roadways expeditiously.

First, please do not shovel/snowblow snow into the street. This only compounds the existing accumulation and prevents crews from moving on to other streets/areas yet to be cleared.

Second, please, if possible, remove vehicles from the street and park them in a driveway. By doing this, crews will have a clear path and will be able to plow “curb to curb”.

Finally, if a snow emergency is declared, all vehicles MUST be removed from any street designated as a snow emergency route. A list of snow emergency routes can be found here:

https://www.springfielddelco.org/snow-emergency-routes/

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

If you still need to recycle your Christmas Tree, the Public Works Department will be making a second trip to collect any discarded trees tomorrow (Wednesday Jan. 10th). Please remember to remove any decorations/garland/tinsel and the tree stand before putting the tree out.

Just a reminder that Public Works crews will make a second trip around to collect any discarded Christmas trees tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10th. If you have a tree waiting to be disposed of, please place it curbside for collection. Please make every effort to remove any tinsel/garland and stand from the tree. Crews will collect all trees, but unfortunately “dirty” trees are not recyclable. Crews will make a third and final push on Wednesday, January 17th. Thank you!

Here is the 2023 Leaf Collection Schedule for Springfield Township. Please note the weeks for collection in the 6th Ward:

6-1: Week of October 30

6-2: Week of November 13

6-3: Week of November 27

6-4: Week of November 27

The crisp air of Autumn is upon us and leaves are changing color and beginning to fall. That must mean it’s time for the official leaf collection schedule! The Public Works Department leaf pick-up schedule is broken down by Ward and Precinct. If you are unsure of your Ward and Precinct, you can check by visiting the Springfield Township webpage:

Please place leaf piles along the front sidewalk of your property. Do not place leaf piles in the street and please know that leaf burning is strictly prohibited.

As always, crews will continue as scheduled and will then revisit any areas in need of additional collection(s).
