This past weekend, the Deforest Windsor Fire Department was honored to host the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk, bringing our community together to remember and honor the sacrifices made by our nation’s first responders, military members, and their families.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward the legacy of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who gave his life on September 11, 2001, by supporting our nation’s heroes and their families. We are proud to be part of that mission.

Thank you to our community for showing up, supporting one another, and helping make this event a success. Your participation helps ensure that the sacrifices of our heroes are never forgotten.

Norway Grove School Road Fire

Monday May 12, 2026

On Monday May 12, 2026 at approximately 11:55pm, the Deforest Windsor Fire & EMS Department responded to a large outside fire at 5466 Norway Grove School Road in the Town of Vienna. On arrival, crews located a large scrap pile that was completely involved with fire. Incident command was established and a MABAS Box Alarm was requested to the second alarm for tenders. Tenders shuttled in approximately 140,000 gallons of water over the next few hours. On-site heavy machinery was used to separate the pile and ensure extinguishment. The fire was determined out arround 4:30am. No injuries or damage to exposures was reported. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.

DWFD would like to thank the following agencies who responded to assist with the incident:
Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Dane-Vienna Fire Department, Waunakee Fire Department, Waunakee EMS, Sun Prairie Fire and EMS, Middleton Fire Department, Maple Bluff Fire Department, Marshall Fire Department, Cross Plains-Berry Fire Department, Columbus Fire Department, Rio Fire Department, Poynette Dekorra Fire Deparment, and Black Earth Fire Department.

🚧🔥 HISTORY IN THE MAKING 🔥🚑

Today marks a major milestone for DeForest Windsor Fire & EMS as we officially break ground on our second station! This isn’t just the start of a new building — it’s the beginning of a new chapter for our department and the communities we proudly serve.

As our community continues to grow, so does our commitment to providing fast, reliable, and professional fire and EMS services. This new station will help us better serve our residents, strengthen emergency response, and prepare for the future.

We are proud to be making history together — honoring the foundation built before us while building something that will serve generations to come.

Thank you to our community, partners, and supporters who helped make this vision a reality. The future starts now.

*Joint training exercise*

On Thursday May 7th, the DeForest Windsor Fire & EMS Department, along with the local partner agencies, will be conducting a joint training exercise with UW Med Flight.

Weather and call volume permitting, the Med Flight helicopter is scheduled to land at Fireman's Park between 7:00-7:30pm.

There is no cause for concern if you see or hear the helicopter in the area. This training is focused on flight scene management and not a public event. We respectfully ask that community members do not approach the training area.

Thank you!

Today we honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters everywhere.

Running toward danger when others are told to run away takes a kind of strength most people will never fully understand. Whether it’s fighting fires, responding to medical emergencies, or supporting their communities in times of crisis—firefighters show up, every single time.

Thank you for the long hours, the risks you take, and the lives you protect.

Happy National Firefighters Day 🚒🔥

Big news for our community!
This week, both the Village of Windsor and the Village of DeForest officially approved construction of DeForest Windsor Fire & EMS Station #2!
This project marks an important step forward in strengthening emergency response capabilities, improving service coverage, and ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of fire and EMS protection for our growing communities.
Station #2 will help reduce response times, support our dedicated personnel, and better serve residents, businesses, and visitors throughout both Windsor and DeForest.
We are grateful for the collaboration, support, and shared vision from both communities that made this possible. This investment is an investment in public safety, preparedness, and the future of our communities.
We look forward to sharing updates as construction moves forward!

Training never stops. Our firefighters have been sharpening critical search and rescue, self-rescue, and extrication skills to stay ready for any emergency. From locating victims in low-visibility conditions, to practicing techniques for getting themselves and their crew out safely, to removing patients from heavily damaged vehicles, this hands-on training builds confidence, teamwork, and preparedness.

When seconds matter, training makes the difference. Proud of our members for their dedication to protecting our community and each other.
