We are aware of the missed pickups, delayed routes, and yard waste backlogs affecting neighborhoods across the city. These issues stem from equipment failures and the high volume generated during the holiday week, and they are unacceptable.

Mayor Baydoun has sent a formal letter to Priority Waste demanding a $13,000 deduction from their May invoice under contract provisions that hold them financially accountable for every missed or delayed collection. This is not a courtesy! It is a contractual consequence, and we will continue enforcing it.

Here is where things stand with Priority Waste as of this week:
• Bulk pickup from 5/29: 40% complete
• Bulk pickup from 5/30: 0% complete
• Compost from 5/28: 15% complete
• Compost from 5/29 and 5/30: 0% complete

Rather than continue chasing last week’s backlog, Priority has made the operational decision to focus on staying current this week and maintaining service going forward. The City pushed back on this and has made clear that this is not acceptable as a standalone response. Priority management has teams working extended hours to overhaul their fleet, and we are told service should stabilize within the next ten days.

We have also requested a formal review meeting with Priority leadership to address their performance and ensure this does not happen again. This is not a situation the City is willing to wait out. We have put Priority Waste on notice, and we will keep the pressure on until residents get what they are owed.
