Due do the tornado warning, the district is inviting parents who are arriving for pickup to come into the school and shelter until the threat passes. Students are not being released at this time. Buses will also be running late as we keep children who were still in school in the buildings.:

Students are not allowed to have phones or other smart devices, including watches and glasses, during class. We want students focused on learning!

Congratulations to River Oaks, Maples, Nowlin, Miller, Oakman and Howard elementary schools, which were recently recognized with Bright Spot Top School awards.
The schools ranked in the top 5 percent in the state when comparing the number of third graders proficient in reading with the expectation based on the number of low-income students in the building.

Update- The district has ordered new play equipment to replace the Nowlin play structure destroyed by a fire in July. We expect installation to start in October.

Dearborn Schools is pleased to announce that new playground equipment has been ordered for Nowlin Elementary School. Join us for whatever meeting works for your schedule to learn more about the 2026 transformational bond on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The Sept. 2 meeting at Salina Intermediate and the Sept. 3 at Lowrey include building tours at 5:30 before the community meeting at 6.

Watch your mail! The first postcard about the district's 2026 transformational bond is on the way to homes in the district.
Community meetings start next week.
-Tuesday, Sept. 1 is at Howard Elementary
-Wednesday, Sept. 2 is at Salina Intermediate
-Thursday, Sept. 3, is at Lowrey School
Community meetings start at 6 p.m.
Salina and Lowrey will also have school walk-throughs at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to see first hand some of the challenges our buildings face.

With students heading back to class, school buses are once again making their daily trips throughout Dearborn. Drivers, please slow down, stay alert, and be prepared to stop.

🔴 Red flashing lights & stop arm extended: STOP — students may be entering or crossing the roadway.

🟡 Yellow flashing lights: Slow down and prepare to stop.

🚌 Never pass a school bus from behind while it is stopped to load or unload students.

↔️ Give buses plenty of space and watch carefully for children around bus stops.

👀 Expect the unexpected — children may enter the roadway suddenly.

A few extra seconds of patience can help prevent a tragedy.
