Last Friday, the 10th grade class at HFA had the privilege of experiencing Ford Rouge Factory Tour firsthand, in conjunction with our esteemed charter partners, Ford Motor Company and The Henry Ford.
The day before the trip, the students heard guest speakers from THF and Ford speak on the unique operation of the plant, including how Ford has been able to make the Rouge complex a zero-waste facility. They also engaged in trip-related lessons across their many classroom subjects, preparing them to see the real-life significance of their curriculum in the everyday operation of Ford Rouge Factory.
On Friday morning, the students hopped on busses and traveled to the plant, where they learned about its history and its redesign in the late 90s that increased efficiency, reduced waste, and introduced one of the largest living roofs in existence to the world. Finally, the 10th grade class was able to observe the factory floor, where Ford Motor Company employees assemble ~1,000 F-150 pickup trucks a day using Henry Ford's trademark assembly line manufacturing strategy.
We would like to thank our charter partners for allowing our students to be part of such an enriching experience. We would also like to give a very special shoutout to math teacher Mrs. Roe, who designed the field trip while attending Educators-in-Residence, a program of The Henry Ford's inHub (THF inHub).
