Well, you're noticing the Construction Fence go up. Yep.... you'll see a lot of activity going on OUTSIDE the building. INSIDE currently we are reinforcing barrel trusses which will support the balcony catwalks for great 2nd floor viewing of the performing stage. OMG! The scope of this work is enormous! But the end result will knock your socks off! More info to come as we progress. Current plans include: Silver Screen Cafe in the lobby (coffee / sandwich shop) with extended indoor and street-level outdoor seating. Hiwassee Social 2nd floor seating with full bar and restaurant options. 3rd floor outdoor rooftop seating w/fire pit and captivating views of the Town of Decatur skyline. Think of Nashville's Music Row right here in Decatur, TN.

This structure will become a multi-purpose venue, hosting live music concerts, private parties, weddings, sock-hops (for the high school kids), classic movies, theatrical plays, bluegrass festivals, promoting local talent, catered events, popcorn concessions, great coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. It will absolutely Put.Decatur.On.The.Map. You wait and see!

This is the kind of "old timey" photograph that we'll turn into a mural, or poster, or have it framed and placed in the Theatre. This one was in color but doctored to be B&W. Anything from the operating period of the Theatre (1946 - 1964) is desired!

As we are gaining traction on bringing the Historic Meigs Theatre back to life, I request assistance from all Meigs County Folks.

In certain areas of the Theatre we will decorate the walls with historical photographs of our towns, our county, and our people.
These images will be processed into posters, wallpaper, murals, etc. I solicit your assistance by providing your historical photos... memories that will be proudly displayed in the Theatre for generations.

I think this is a GREAT way to maintain a tangible connection to the past, serving as crucial cultural, social, and personal records. The images will document, evoke emotions, inspire change, and prevent the loss of stories to time. This preservation ensures that heritage, architectural evolution, and personal memories remain accessible for future generations. These images will act as bridges to the past, allowing our entire community to connect with their family history, heritage, and identity.

You can PM me those photos, or email them to [email protected].

I will be in touch regarding our plans for your images, and in the case copyrights or photos of your friends and family, obtain your permission to display them.

Good morning!

‘Tis the 4th of July when we all celebrate our Freedom. Ugh… I don’t feel very “free” today with the mountain of tasks ahead of me. I’ve finished with my cheese & tomato toast breakfast, three cups of coffee, pulled a tick, brushed my teeth and took my vitamins and meds, released the dogs, checked on the chickens, and got flustered because the garden stuff needs picking.

Getting ready to go load the truck with ice machine bags, folding chairs, coolers, drop cords, generator, towels, garbage bags, nitrile gloves, spoons, wet and dry ice cream mix, and sunscreen. Off to the Ice Machine to get 500 pounds of ice then back to Downtown Decatur to begin the process of making Home-Made Ice Cream on behalf of the Meigs Boys and Girls Club at tonight’s July 4th celebration with fireworks. Lordy I hope the Club has the pop-up tent ready by the time I get there. Gonna be a hot one.

In retrospect, I probably wouldn’t be able to not enjoy those tasks if we weren’t free. So my heartfelt gratitude to all the folks both living and dead who have made this possible. I shouldn’t complain.

Like most of us I get flustered with the state of our politics and government. We all gripe and complain and bellyache about how things aren’t run the way we see fit. Yes, there is graft and corruption and dishonesty and deception. But let me tell you: I’ve been to 22 other countries, including China, India, Turkey, Chile, Thailand, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada, and Texas. I’d trade them all for the life I have right here in Decatur, TN. Hard to beat Home.

I do my best to do my part. I vote. I give. I participate. Somewhere along the way I hope there has been a modicum of difference I have made, that in some small way I’ve made this world a better place for those who matter the most.

So I tell myself "Suck it up, Buttercup! Let’s get’er done."

I challenge you to come and enjoy the freedom that tonight’s event offers. Eat some ice cream (and maybe some of Bubba’s BBQ). Enjoy the fireworks show. And thank God we live in the USA.
