Family-Placed Death Notice

ELROD, Nancy Nancy Evans Elrod, wife, mother, Nana, mentor, and teacher died at home with her family on October, 22, 2013. She was born in Griffin, Georgia, in 1945, where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Robert, in 1965. She was the daughter of Lewis Milton and Lois Atkinson Evans. Nancy graduated from Clemson University in 1967, taught school in Anderson S.C. until moving to Decatur, Georgia. in 1969. Nancy taught English at Avondale High School in Dekalb County, Georgia for 28 years, serving as department chairperson for many of those years. After retiring in 2000, she spent the last 13 years of her life working in her garden, tending to her beloved grandchildren and entertaining her many friends and family with a special flair. She is survived by her husband, Robert, son, Joshua, daughter-in-law, Bethy and grandchildren Sawyer and Amalia. The celebration of her life will be held in her garden at 80 Lakeshore Drive, Avondale Estates, Georgia, 30002 at 11AM on Saturday, November 2, 2013. After the celebration, guests are invited to join us at the Corner Pub at 627-D East College Ave., Decatur, Georgia, 30030 for further celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Little Creek Horse Farm, at littlecreekfarmconservancy.org, or P.O. Box 33862, Decatur, Georgia 30033.
