Update from the Limestone County Sheriff's Office in regards to the officer-involved shooting that took place on June 15, 2026 in Decatur:

Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Decatur, Alabama

Decatur, Alabama — At the request of the agencies involved, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to Decatur on Monday to lead the investigation into an officer-involved shooting.

The incident occurred while personnel from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, and Decatur Police Department were conducting an operation involving a wanted individual identified as Nicholas Scott Terry, 37, of Leighton, Alabama.

During the operation, officers observed Terry exit Lowe’s and enter a vehicle. A marked patrol vehicle, a uniformed officer, and additional officers displaying police identifiers, including visible badges and police patch panels, approached Terry. Officers identified themselves as law enforcement and issued verbal commands.

During the encounter, Terry produced a firearm from his waistband and discharged the weapon at officers. Three officers returned fire, striking Terry multiple times. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Terry was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.

At the time of the incident, Terry was wanted on multiple felony warrants.
Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division are actively reviewing video footage, processing evidence, and conducting witness interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.

Earlier this evening, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office assisted the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office in locating a wanted person at Lowe's in Decatur. When contact was made, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Deputies sustained minor injuries. The subject suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

As with any officer-involved shooting, an outside agency has been requested to conduct the investigation. The Decatur Police Department was initially assigned to handle the investigation.

UPDATE: The Limestone County Sheriff's Office has been asked to conduct the investigation after it was determined that a Decatur Police Department officer assisted in securing the scene following the shooting.

On June 10, 2026, Agents with the Morgan County Sheriff's Drug Enforcement Unit, assisted by Deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, conducted a vehicle stop on Highway 231 near Union Grove, Alabama, in reference to an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Amber Young, and the passenger, identified as Billy Brown Jr. During the course of the traffic stop, a certified narcotics detection K-9 was deployed and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle. The K-9 gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics.

Based upon the positive K-9 alert, probable cause existed to search the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a trafficking quantity of fentanyl powder, a distribution amount of methamphetamine, multiple controlled substance pills, and drug paraphernalia commonly utilized in the packaging and distribution of illegal narcotics.

As a result of the investigation and evidence recovered, Amber Kaye Young, 41 of Hartselle, was arrested and charged with:

▪️13A-12-211 - Unlawful Distribution; Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
▪️13A-12-212 - Unlawful Possession/Receipt of Controlled Substance
▪️13A-12-260 - Unlawful Possession Drug Paraphernalia
▪️Bond $16,300.00

Billy Frank Brown Jr. 55 of Somerville, was arrested and charged with:

▪️13A-12-231 - Dangerous Drugs-Drug Trafficking-Fentanyl
▪️13A-12-211 - Unlawful Distribution; Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
▪️13A-12-212 - Unlawful Possession/Receipt of Controlled Substance
▪️13A-12-260 - Unlawful Possession Drug Paraphernalia
And 13 Failure to Appear Warrants for:

▪️FTA- ATTEMPT TO ELUDE
▪️FTA- RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT
▪️FTA- RESISTING ARREST
▪️FTA- PARAPHERNALIA x3
▪️FTA- PUBLIC INTOXICATION
▪️FTA- OPERATING VEHICLE WITHOUT INSURANCE x2
▪️FTA- DRIVING WHILE REVOKED
▪️FTA- FAIL STOP SIGN
▪️FTA- EXPIRED TAG
▪️FTA- RECKLESS DRIVING
▪️Bond $258,813.00

Both were transported to and booked in the Morgan County Jail.

Rock the South announcement made this morning:

Due to unprecedented amounts of rainfall across the state of Alabama this past week, the City of Decatur and organizers of Rock the South music festival today announced the rescheduling of the festival from this coming weekend to the weekend of October 1st through 4th.

“The monumental amount of rain that has fallen at the event site gives us no choice but to postpone the festival,” said festival organizers. “We are thankful that the headliners are available for the new dates, and appreciate the patience and support of all involved as we look to put on a great Rock the South later this year.”

All three previously announced headliners remain on the lineup: Zach Top on Thursday, Oct. 1; Jason Aldean on Friday, Oct. 2; and Riley Green on Sunday, Oct.4. The festival weekend will now expand to four days with a headlining performance from Jessie Murph on Saturday, Oct. 3 at no additional cost to ticket holders.

Most scheduled artists are able to perform on the revised dates, and festival organizers will announce the updated daily lineup in the coming weeks.

“The safety of our festival attendees, artists, and staff is paramount, and we’re confident that the rescheduled dates will ensure an enjoyable festival experience for all,” they continued.

Festival tickets and camping packages for the original dates will be honored on the newly rescheduled dates. Festival organizers will email purchasers next week with details for those unable to attend Rock the South this October.
