Today was such a fun day for our Club!

We had the privilege of opening our second Rotary-funded book vending machine at Sangamon Valley Primary School. We hope the students enjoy the books (and happy birthday to the birthday girl who received one of the first books!).

💙 Today's Rotary Club #180 Monday Meeting was one that left us thinking.

We had the privilege of hearing from Carol Merna, CEO of the Center for Prevention of Abuse, who shared the importance of starting the conversation about human trafficking and the work being done to support survivors throughout Central Illinois.

👁️Some of the facts she shared were eye-opening:

🔹 Illinois ranks #10 in the nation for human trafficking.
🔹 Chicago ranks #3 among U.S. cities.
🔹 Nearly 31.9% of Illinois human trafficking cases occur in Central Illinois.
🔹 Victims range in age from 6 years old to 65+.
🔹 Human trafficking includes both s*x trafficking and labor trafficking.
🔹 In many cases, traffickers aren't strangers, they are people the victim knows or trusts.

These statistics aren't meant to create fear. They're a reminder that awareness is one of our greatest tools.

As difficult as this conversation is, the Center for Prevention of Abuse's message is simple: LET'S START THE CONVERSATION. By learning the signs, talking openly, and supporting organizations like the Center, we can help protect our communities and bring hope to those who need it most.

🎉 What a fantastic way to kick off a new Rotary year! 🔷

👥 Decatur Rotary Club #180 had a wonderful first meeting of the month, led by our new President, Paul Lidy! 👏💙 We were excited to see such a great turnout as we begin another year of service, fellowship, and making a difference in our community. 🌟

A big thank you to 👮‍♂️ Officer Alex Amaya of the Decatur Police Department, hosted by Randy Grigg, for joining us and answering questions submitted by our Rotarians. From local laws and ordinances 📋⚖️ to community safety 🚔, Officer Amaya shared valuable information and had a great discussion with our members.

We also celebrated our July birthdays 🎂, anniversaries ❤️, and enjoyed a morning filled with fellowship 🤝, friendship, and Service Above Self. ⭐

Cheers to an amazing Rotary year ahead filled with leadership 💙, service 🙌, and continued community impact! 🎉
