Congratulations to the Decatur Utilities Water Resources team for being presented with several awards at the Alabama Water Pollution Control Association annual meeting. DU's Dry Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant received an Award of Recognition for operational year 2025; The DU Water Treatment Plant received the 2025 Best Operated Plant Award (Distribution System 25-50k meters) and 2025 Award of Excellence (Surface Water Plant >60 MGD. Kudos to our team of plant operators, maintenance mechanics, electricians, and environmental engineers! They make it possible! We join with others around the country in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton. By Presidential Proclamation, U.S. Flags will be flown at half-staff for one week in honor of the country music legend and philanthropist who inspired so many with her music and loving spirit. Donations to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library can be made in her memory at https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/. DPIL provides free books to children birth-5 years. United Way of Morgan County is the local agency handling registration for children in Morgan County. Register at www.uwmcal.org. Donations to UWMC help cover postage costs for mailing out books to local children. Thank you Dolly! Rest in peace!

Why is it important NOT to flush wipes and other products? Even though some wipes say "flushable" - they are NOT safe for DU's sanitary sewer system and can cause clogs as well as damage equipment at our lift stations and wastewater treatment plant. Please dispose of any type of wipe, feminine product, cotton swabs, etc. in the trash instead. Thanks for helping us keep the DU sanitary sewer system flowing properly!

Decatur Utilities will be performing wastewater construction work on Somerville Rd SE between Magnolia St SE and College St SE on August 25th, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this time, traffic on Somerville Rd SE will be closed from Magnolia St SE to College St SE, with detours signed accordingly.

Utility workers will be on-site at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday to set up the necessary traffic control devices to notify motorists of the upcoming work zone. DU asks that motorists be aware of all traffic control devices, construction personnel, and equipment in the work zone and to approach the area with extreme caution and at a reduced speed.

Crews from Decatur Utilities will be performing routine maintenance at the Danville Road Water Booster Station from Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28. No water pressure issues are expected. However, customers in the portion of the service area served by the booster station (noted in the graphic) may notice slight fluctuations in water pressure during this time.
