Morgan County Child Advocacy Center

Morgan County Child Advocacy Center The purpose of the Morgan County CAC is to provide help and healing to children. The Morgan County Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) agency.

The purpose of the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is to provide help and healing to children. Our vision is that no child who has experienced abuse will have to suffer in silence. The mission of the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center’s Multidisciplinary Team, which is comprised of the District Attorney and his staff, law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources, and medical and m

ental health providers, is to provide excellence in the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse. The CAC provides a safe and caring environment for children and their caregivers. The CAC provides services to children and adolescents who have been sexually abused, physically abused, and/or exposed to domestic violence. The Morgan County CAC has three main program areas which include forensic interviews and extended forensic interviews, victim advocacy, and therapy. The CAC is currently funded through grants and appropriations from the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs, the Alabama Network of Child Advocacy Centers, the National Children’s Alliance, United Way, the City of Decatur, the City of Hartselle, the Morgan County Commission, the Combined Federal Campaign, and donations by individuals and businesses. Community support is critical to the continued success and growth of the CAC.

We are incredibly grateful to be a recipient of the 2026 Little Drummer Girl Fund through the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville!

This generous funding will support the CAC’s Facility Dog Program, helping us continue providing support to children and families as they navigate some of their most difficult days.

We are so thankful to the Little Drummer Girl Fund and the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville for recognizing the important role our facility dog program plays in creating a safe, supportive environment for the children we serve. 🐾🩵

It's important to remember that children can experience PTSD too.

But it doesn’t always look like what you’d expect.
Childhood trauma often shows up in behavior — not words.

Here’s what it might look like:
😴 Trouble sleeping or nightmares
😡 Angry outbursts or “misbehavior”
😶 Withdrawal or shutting down
😭 Big reactions to small problems
🌀 Zoning out or seeming “spacey”
🫂 Intense fear of being away from caregivers

These behaviors aren’t “bad.” They’re signs of a nervous system that’s been overwhelmed and is still trying to feel safe.

As adults, our job isn’t to fix or punish, it’s to understand, support, and create safety. 💛

At the Morgan County CAC, we know that when a child finds the courage to disclose abuse, the response they receive can shape what happens next. A supportive, calm, and reassuring response can help a child feel safe, believed, and empowered to continue telling their story.

That's why we're sharing these simple but powerful tips. We want parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, neighbors, and every trusted adult in our community to feel prepared if a child ever turns to them for help.

Protecting children starts with education. By learning how to respond, each of us can play a role in creating a safer community where children know they will be heard, believed, and supported.
