When outdoors in the heat, wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight. If you will be spending time outdoors, hats are also a good idea to protect your face and scalp from harmful UV rays. Also, don’t forget to apply sunscreen liberally. weather.gov/safety/heat

Highs over 100 degrees are in play this week, especially near and south of I-72/Danville, from today through Friday. No rain chances for the next several days. Stay safe and hydrated! Take frequent breaks if having to do activities outside.

Macon County EMA is proud to introduce **Project SAFER Spectrum... Sensory Awareness for Emergency Response**, an initiative focused on building awareness, understanding, and safer emergency interactions for individuals on the autism spectrum and others with sensory or communication needs.

Through education, responder resources, communication tools, and community partnerships, Project SAFER Spectrum is working to help the emergency responders serve these community members who may have unique needs.

We’re excited to grow this initiative and connect with families, caregivers, first responders, educators, healthcare professionals, and community partners along the way.

Scattered Thunderstorms today

A cold front will advance across central Illinois this afternoon and evening kicking off scattered thunderstorms. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary hazards, but an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out, especially over portions of east central Illinois.

IMPORTANT WEATHER ALERT INFORMATION

There is NO current Outage.

There is NO current Outage with the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and mobile weather app notifications. While this issue is now resolved and alerting functionality is fully restored, we would like to take this opportunity to stress the importance of having multiple ways of severe weather warning.

You may have seen posts stating that there is a major NOAA/NWS outage causing extreme delays with the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and mobile weather app notifications on Tuesday, August 11.

Macon County EMA contacted the National Weather Service (NWS) Lincoln to verify the status. NWS Lincoln reports that technicians identified and corrected the issue last night, and it is not expected to impact today’s incoming forecasted storms.

That said, don’t rely on just one source for emergency information. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and emergency information:

📱 Trusted weather/emergency apps on your devices
💻 Reliable online weather sources
📺 Local radio and television media
🚨 Outdoor Warning Systems when you are outside
