What an exciting day to witness history in the making!

Yesterday, members of the African American Caucus of DeKalb were proud to join Georgians from every corner of our state as we gathered in support of Senator Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms.

What stood out most was the diversity in the room. People from different backgrounds, communities, and lived experiences came together because they understand what is at stake for Georgia’s future. The conversations throughout the day made it clear how deeply these issues connect to our communities, our workforce, and the vision of a stronger Georgia ahead.

As we move forward, we must remain engaged and informed. The strength of our democracy depends on participation, and every voice and every vote matters.

The work isn’t over yet! Early voting runs from June 6 through June 12, and Election Day is June 16. Make a plan to vote, remind your family and friends, and let’s continue showing the power of community engagement and civic participation.

Let’s stay fired up, stay engaged, and keep building a stronger Georgia for ALL OF US!

Now is the time to stay engaged, stay informed, and make your voice heard at the ballot box. Elections are decided by those who show up — and our communities deserve to be represented.

On this Memorial Day, we pause with purpose.

The African American Caucus of DeKalb County stands in reflection and deep gratitude for the brave souls who gave everything in service to this country. Their sacrifice is not just history—it is the ground we stand on today, the freedom we organize within, and the future we are still fighting to protect.

We honor the fallen, we uplift their families, and we remember that liberty has always come at a cost—especially for communities who have had to fight for both recognition and respect.

Today is not just a holiday. It is a reminder: service is sacred, sacrifice is real, and our responsibility is ongoing.

As Chair of the African American Caucus of DeKalb, I was honored to attend the opening of the South DeKalb Coordinated Campaign Office!

Our Caucus remains committed to protecting democracy, uplifting communities, and advancing opportunity for working families across Georgia.
At a time when voting rights, economic access, and public trust are under pressure, leadership and accountability matter more than ever. Senator Jon Ossoff continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to transparency and public service.

It is especially important for communities—particularly the Black communities to stay engaged, informed, and intentional about leadership that will protect our rights. As conversations continue around upcoming special legislative sessions and redistricting, the stakes are significant. These decisions will shape representation, resources, and long-term outcomes for DeKalb and communities across Georgia.

This moment calls for unity and continued collaboration across communities and leadership. Strong democracy depends on people staying connected, participating, and working together to ensure every voice is heard.

It was also great to hear from CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Congressman Hank Johnson as we continue important conversations about the future of our communities and our democracy.

We encourage everyone to stay engaged, stay informed, and stay active in the democratic process because Georgia’s future depends on it!

Georgia — make sure you vote TODAY.

If you did not early vote, May 19th is the LAST and ONLY day to vote in this primary election.

Please vote with facts — not opinions that are not rooted in facts. Every election is important, but this one is especially crucial. The decisions being made right now will impact our communities, our families, our workforce, and our future for years to come.

Vote like your life depends on it — because for many people, it truly does.

What we are seeing happen across the South can be stopped, but only if people show up and use their voice at the ballot box.

Make your plan. Bring a friend. Stay in line. Vote.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, and mother figures today!!

If your mother is still here, celebrate her, love on her, and cherish the moments while you can. Life moves fast, and time is something we don’t get back.

And for those whose mothers have passed on, may today be a gentle reminder that love doesn’t end — it transforms. Take a moment to honor their memory, speak their name, and hold onto the lessons, laughter, and strength they left behind.

Today is about gratitude in every form it takes — the presence we can touch, and the memories we can still feel.
