A familiar name with a renewed mission — the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse is back and focused on strengthening the connection between our community and local law enforcement.

The Posse is an independent, civilian volunteer organization that supports the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies throughout Wise County. While they work alongside law enforcement when requested, the Posse is not affiliated with or a division of the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, and Posse members do not have law enforcement authority.

Their mission is centered around service, trust, and community — including community events, youth engagement, volunteer service, and supporting public safety efforts throughout Wise County.

We’re proud to see community members stepping up to serve and build stronger relationships between citizens and law enforcement. 🤝

🐾 Happy National K-9 Day!

Today we’re recognizing Ghost, Prime, and Reign, the three K-9s of the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.

From training to working calls alongside their handlers, these K-9s play an important role in keeping our community safe. We’re proud to have them on the team and appreciate the work they do every day.

Ever wondered what it’s really like to work in law enforcement? The Wise County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Law Enforcement Academy gives members of our community a firsthand look at what it takes to keep Wise County safe.

This FREE 11-week program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of our Deputies, Dispatchers, Jailers, and civilian staff, with presentations and demonstrations from Patrol, Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT, and more. Classes are held Thursday evenings from 6:30–9:30 PM, beginning September 10, 2026.

Who can apply?
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must live or work in Wise County
• Must complete and pass a background check
• No law enforcement experience is required

🚨 5 TIPS TO AVOID SCAMS

1️⃣ Never pay over the phone.
Law enforcement will never call and demand payment for an outstanding warrant, fine, bond, or other legal matter. If someone demands immediate payment, hang up.

2️⃣ Don’t trust caller ID.
Scammers can make a call appear to come from a legitimate law enforcement agency or government office. A familiar name or number does not mean the caller is legitimate.

3️⃣ Verify before you act.
If someone claims to be a Sheriff’s Office employee, hang up and contact the agency directly using a verified phone number. Don’t use a number provided by the caller, text, or email. 940-627-5971

4️⃣ Don’t click first—think first.
Be cautious with unexpected texts and emails asking you to click a link, open an attachment, provide personal information, or send money. When in doubt, delete it and contact the organization directly.

5️⃣ Pressure is a red flag. 🚩
Scammers often create a sense of urgency—threatening arrest, fines, suspension, or other consequences if you don’t pay immediately. Stop, slow down, and verify. Legitimate agencies will not demand immediate payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, payment apps, or wire transfers.

🔵 Remember:

When in doubt, hang up and verify.
A few extra minutes to confirm who you’re dealing with could save you hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars.

🏆 A NIGHT OF NATIONAL RECOGNITION 🏆

We are incredibly proud to recognize the members of our Wise County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit for their outstanding accomplishments at the National Interdiction Conference Awards last night.

Our team received THREE national awards recognizing their dedication, teamwork, and results:

🏆 2025 Investigative Team of the Year
🏆 2025 Dedicated & Motivated Team of the Year
🏆 2025 Largest Seizure of the Year — recognizing Deputy Simpson for a 4,350-pound seizure, the largest investigative seizure reported to the National Interdiction Network in 2025.

These awards are a reflection of the countless hours, determination, and teamwork that go into criminal interdiction work. We are proud of this team and the commitment they demonstrate every day to keeping dangerous drugs off our roads and out of our communities.

Our motorcycle deputy traded the normal traffic patrol route for the arena at last month’s Boyd Bash Midnight Rodeo! 🌙🐎

We’re always proud to see our deputies out in the community, representing the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and having a little fun along the way.

Members of the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and Wise County EMS were recently recognized with Letters of Commendation for their actions during a serious traffic crash. The video of the incident was previously shared by Fox 4 News.

Investigator Chandler Works and 2 other Wise County investigators, along with D/O Paramedic Joseph Sheddy and D/O EMT Aaron Mann, demonstrated quick thinking, teamwork, and determination when they encountered a major crash while returning from training.

Their willingness to immediately stop, assess the situation, call for additional resources, and work together to safely extricate a trapped driver is a powerful example of what public safety is all about: showing up, stepping in, and doing whatever it takes to protect life.

We are proud to recognize these five for their outstanding service to our community and beyond.
