[625A] An organized complex of thunderstorms will bring threats for locally damaging winds (50-60 MPH), frequent lightning and heavy rainfall/flooding to the region this afternoon (12 PM - 6 PM). Impacts from this system will likely be greatest across the western half of the region.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Morgan County 911 dispatched
Decatur Fire Rescue to a reported apartment fire in the 1200 block of Beltline Road
Southwest. While en route, crews learned that a person might still be inside the
apartment.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from one unit of a multifamily apartment
complex. Crews immediately entered the apartment, conducted a primary search, and
located one person. Firefighters removed the individual while other crews worked to
bring the fire under control. Crews then completed a secondary search and found no one
else inside the apartment.
Decatur Fire Rescue and Decatur Morgan EMS personnel immediately began advanced
life-support measures. The individual was transported to a local hospital, where they later
died.
The fire also temporarily displaced residents from three additional apartments. The
American Red Cross is assisting those families.
Investigators with Decatur Fire Rescue and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office
responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains undetermine

Yesterday morning at 10:43 a.m., DFR crews were dispatched to a possible business fire in the 1100 block of Knight Street. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the business. The employees were able to safely evacuate and there were no injuries. Crews were also able to rescue a litter of kittens from the building, and all are happy and healthy!!!! Great job, everyone
