Batteries can be brought to the DPW at 55 River Street every third Saturday of the month as part of the "Not Your Average Cardboard" recycling events. The next drop off day is Saturday October 18th.

⚠️Beware of hidden batteries! Batteries should never go in the recycling, and some don't go in the trash, either—they are a major cause of fires at sorting facilities. A lot of Halloween decorations (even the small ones) have batteries in them. If you're getting rid of old decor, check it for batteries before donating or throwing it away.

➡️Only single-use alkaline batteries can go in the trash.
➡️For all other kinds, take them to a drop-off location: call2recycle.org/locator

Today's spotlight is on the top of the waste hierarchy: rethink and refuse! The reality is, everything we have has to go somewhere at some point. Being more conscious of this, and mindful about the things we acquire, helps us shape habits that prevent waste.

For example, is there an option to buy something on your grocery list with less packaging? Or to replace single-use items with reusables? What about skipping the disposable utensils when ordering food? Or ""shopping"" from your own closet? Consider what works for you!

When we think about our stuff and where it goes, we help shift ""buy, use, toss"" away from being the default, and make it a habit to say no to things we don't need. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3LqZRDi
