On this International Overdose Awareness Day, Sheriff Patrick McDermott and the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office are grateful for the hard work of those dedicated to saving the lives of people at risk from substance use.
Massachusetts has seen recent success in this effort, but major challenges remain. Hundreds of lives are lost each year and the ripple effect on family, friends, and our communities is far reaching.
The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office Medications for Opioid Use Disorder program saw a significant increase in patients treated last year. Our MOUD program is a model for other correctional facilities.

🚨 MISSING JUVENILE – PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED 🚨

The Stoughton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Gabriel Carneira, a 15-year-old runaway juvenile.

Gabriel is a white male, approximately 5’7” tall, and was last seen this afternoon wearing a black tank top and black shorts.

If you have seen Gabriel or have any information that may assist us in locating him, please contact the Stoughton Police Department at 781-344-2424.

A milestone in the effort to support the work of our nationally recognized Health Service Unit at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office. A “temporary” medical administration trailer - which has stood for nearly 20 years – was torn down Thursday to make way for a new permanent structure for our dedicated medical and mental health professionals. That temporary trailer, which was on blocks and was sinking into the ground, made for some interestingly unlevel conditions inside the trailer for our team of registered nurses, clinicians, and administrators. The HSU plays a vital role in safeguarding the health and well-being of individuals in our custody, and our correctional officers and staff at the correctional facility. We are grateful for their work every day.
Providing healthcare in a correctional setting is inherently complex and requires consistent collaboration between healthcare professionals and correctional staff to ensure that patient needs are met safely, effectively, and in a manner that supports facility operations.
The HSU team did keep a remnant of the old trailer as a keepsake to frame.
This long-awaited project is being overseen by the state’s Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.

Volunteers needed! Sheriff Patrick McDermott, the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Avon, MA Veterans’ Service Office will host a veterans-focused “House to House for Heroes” outreach effort on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Avon.

This community-driven initiative allows volunteers to meet the men and women who have given so much to their country through their honorable military service and provides them with an opportunity to deliver essential information about the many benefits, services, and resources available to those veterans.

Avon will be the tenth Norfolk County Community visited by volunteers through this veterans’ outreach from the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. on September 26th with a kickoff ceremony at VFW Post 8892, located at 263 E Main Street in Avon. From there, volunteers will be assigned homes to conduct their door-to-door outreach of Avon’s veterans.

Volunteers will distribute informational packets that include guidance on accessing veterans’ benefits, healthcare services, housing and employment resources, and contact information for veteran-focused organizations.

Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. at VFW Post 8892 in Avon, ahead of the kickoff ceremony. No advance registration is required. House to House for Heroes will take place rain or shine.

Previous successful House to House for Heroes outreach events have been hosted by the Sheriff’s Office in Holbrook, Canton, Foxborough, Stoughton, Walpole, Norfolk, Weymouth, Braintree and Quincy

A gathering of veterans - that always shines - no matter the weather. Sheriff Patrick McDermott and the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office would like to thank everyone who joined us for the Veterans Picnic at the Public Safety Complex in Braintree on Saturday. The event was presented by Town of Braintree Veterans Services. The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office was a proud sponsor, along with Braintree Mayor Erin Joyce, the American Legion #86, VFW Post #1702, and DAV Chapter 29.
Veterans also got a chance to connect with representatives from the sheriff’s H.O.P.E Center, the Executive Office of Veteran Services, the Mary Bielecki Foundation, the Office of the Veteran Advocate, Gather Health Care, Garity Advantage, New England Center and Home for Veterans, and US Family Health Care. A big shout-out to Tony Columbus Catering for the great food at this BBQ for the Brave!

A great start to our Friday morning roll call! Sheriff Patrick McDermott joined uniformed staff at the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office to announce our Correctional Officer of the Month. Congratulations to Officer Matthew Drain!
Officer Drain joined the NCSO in March of 2025 after graduating from a correctional officer academy run by our friends at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office. Recognition like this, so early in one’s career, is noteworthy and worth celebrating. Officer Drain was recognized as a model of consistency at all posts and across all shifts. Well done Officer Drain!
