This weeks latest scam alert brought to you by an Ovando resident who just got one - And happily hung up on them.
(Another report came in from a Deer Lodge resident this morning)

The callers identified themselves as Homeland Security.

No, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not call you to solicit money, demand personal information, or threaten arrest. These are common phishing scams using fake caller ID, even spoofing legitimate phone numbers. Hang up immediately if a caller claims to be DHS or immigration officials and asks for payment or sensitive data.
Homeland Security scam calls involve fraudsters impersonating U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials to steal money or personal information via phone spoofing. Scammers threaten victims with arrest, deportation, or legal action, often demanding payment via gift cards or wire transfers. DHS never asks for sensitive data or immediate payment over the phone.

If you think your phone call is legit: hang up and call DHS at 202-282-8000 to verify.
