Tonight members did a 40 acre burn . One of our last controlled grass burns for the season. With help from Amery Fire Rescue and Glenwood City Fire Department sending one brush rig each with crew we were able to get it done. Always great when we can work with our neighboring departments and get some training in together. We definitely couldn't have done this burn tonight without the help from them.

We will use this chance as a reminder if you have any interest in joining a fire dept all departments are struggling for members right now. So reach out if you have any interest in joining. If you're not in our fire district we can help guide you to the right path for the department near you!

It's not easy work but when you're working alongside people you trust and helping to teach the next generation firefighters from your dept or others it's why we do what we do and we love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Fish and Wildlife has been in touch with us and they will be burning today, the area between 200th street and hwy 46. So if you see smoke from that area we just wanted you to know it is a controlled burn! If you live down wind of this area you may want to close your windows.

Not all controlled burns go as planned but if everyone is safe you can set it up as a secondary training opportunity on vehicle extrication from the mud! So the burns didn't all go as planned today but some good lessons were learned!

Last night our firefighters trained for what we would normally have this time of the season but wanted to see the capabilities with minimal snow. First off we had NR EMS in house with an ambulance to give us a walk through to familiarize our firefighters with locations of things on their trucks

Followed with a mock rescue drill using our rescue boggan. The boggan has skis or tires depending on the season we can swap out but in the events of weather like this we could get caught with skis on and limited snow!

So members worked with the Deer Park First Responder crew in stabilizing a patient, getting them into a back board and into a stoks basket to take a ride back to a location where the ambulance would be accessible to transfer over to them.

Trainings like this give us a controlled environment to test out limitations of our equipment so in the event like now where the skis are on and have minimal snow, we now know a snowmobile can still pull it fairly easily but when on gravel spots there is a lot of friction with the boggan and a full load (our members might have also loaded up 4 people to test it's weight limits and have a little quick fun going for a ride, gotta have a little fun too!)

We also have our ranger 6x6 if the snowmobile can't handle it in minimal snow event, even with skis on. And we already know how well it works on tires and is very stable too!

We want to thank everyone that braved the colder temps and came out last night to our meat raffle. We raised just shy of $5400 dollars last night. So as we have been doing 1/3 of that( $2000) we will put in our fund towards a new fire hall, and the rest we will put into our fundraiser account to put towards upgrading or some new equipment purchases!

Winners of the gun boards were drawn last night and those winners are as follows:

Stoeger 12 GA- Chris Cosgrove(has been made aware)

R***r .243 - Tyler Sharpe(has been made aware)

Henry Golden Boy Silver - "Sweatpants" ( by the response at the bar last night this person has been made aware)

All three guns plus the three we raffled off during the raffle last night were purchased through Gregerson's Hardware in Baldwin and winners will need to go there to receive and register their fi****ms.
And we would like to thank Gregerson's for donating one of the pistols we raffled off last night.

It was a little different then we have done in the past with the pistols during the raffle, but we felt they were very well received and if you liked that and want to see more of that in the future let us know.

Thank you all again for your support and a great night!

DID YOU KNOW:

With this snowfall event and traveling the roads tonight already before some of the back roads are even plowed, we are noticing snow being pushed from driveways across the roadway into the ditch on the other side of the road. Not only is this illegal this could cause an accident that you could be liable for. Civilians that travel those roads that don't normally expect ridges there could lose control, Or in our case emergency vehicles in route on unplowed road this could create another obstacle for them in white out conditions that they might not be able to see if those plowing ridges are there under some fresh snow when the rest of the road hasn't been plowed at all yet.

We have heard some townships have started enforcing this after having it as an annual reminder and we just wanted to share on our platform also!

Below is info on those state statues;

In Wisconsin, it's illegal to plow snow onto or across public roads due to safety hazards, primarily governed by Wisconsin Statutes 86.01 and 346.94, which prohibit putting foreign substances (like snow) on highways or impeding drainage, carrying fines and potential liability for accidents. Municipalities often enforce this with their own ordinances, adding fees for violations and requiring snow to be pushed into yards, not across the street.

Key Wisconsin Statutes & Rules:

• Wis. Stat. 86.01: Makes it unlawful to leave materials (like snow piles) in the traveled portion of a highway after sunset without proper lighting.
• Wis. Stat. 346.94(5): Prohibits placing any substance on a highway that is or may become injurious, including snow pushed from driveways.
• Wis. Stat. 86.002: Makes it a misdemeanor to place obstructions in road ditches that impede drainage (like compacted snow).

Why It's Prohibited:

• Safety Hazard: Piled snow creates icy patches and blocks sightlines, increasing accident risks.
• Liability: You can be held responsible for damages or injuries if your snow placement causes an accident.

What to Do Instead:

• Push snow onto your own property.
• Be mindful of the right-of-way, which extends beyond the pavement.

Penalties:

• Fines can range from $50 per offense (for placing snow) to potential charges for obstructions or creating hazardous conditions, plus costs for removal.
