Last night I attended the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce's Annual BBQ. It was great to join local businesses, community leaders and residents for an evening of good food, networking and recognition of outstanding students in the Brentwood community. Thank you to the Chamber for continuing to bring people together and support the next generation!

Today, I recognized Private Wynette Bates of Deer Park as my 2026 Suffolk County Woman Veteran of Distinction during the Legislature’s General Meeting. A United States Army veteran, Wynette enlisted in 1979 and served as a Petroleum Supply Specialist, helping ensure military vehicles and aircraft had the fuel needed to safely support mission readiness.

Her commitment to service has continued long after her time in uniform. Wynette remains active with the Northport VA Medical Center, participates in women veterans’ groups, assists veterans in need through the indigent clothing room and supports the work of MWSOA, Inc. on behalf of women veterans. She also gives back locally by organizing weekly bingo for seniors and fellow residents in her community.

Congratulations to Wynette, and thank you for your service, advocacy and dedication to helping others.

Last week I visited Southwest Elementary School in the Brentwood Union Free School District where I honored 5th Grader Kaity German for her impressive entry in the "Be Pool Smart" Poster Contest.

Established by Resolution 927-2007, the contest encourages students to create posters highlighting important pool safety tips and the importance of responsible behavior around water. I presented Kaity with a certificate for her efforts, joined by her art teacher and school administrators. Way to go Kaity!

“Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible—and there is still so much work to do.” — Barack Obama

Last night, Town of Babylon - Government Supervisor Schaffer and I attended the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing and Officer Installation.

It was a pleasure to recognize this year’s honoree, Joseph LaRocco, a U.S. Navy veteran, longtime Chamber member and respected leader with decades of experience in facility, railroad and business operations. Joe’s continued dedication and support of the Chamber have made a lasting impact.

In addition, I assisted in swearing in the Chamber’s new board members as they continue working to support Deer Park’s local businesses and community. Congratulations to Joe and to all who were installed!

Last night, I attended the Deer Park School District Board of Education meeting to recognize several outstanding members of the Deer Park community.

Jaidyn Schabe of Girl Scout Troop 1991 and Sophia Paduano of Girl Scout Troop 1037 earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor attainable by a Girl Scout. Jaidyn’s project focused on STEM education for low-income students, while Sophia’s project, “The Best Buddies Friendship Wall: Celebrating Connections That Last,” highlighted friendship and inclusion. I presented both with County Proclamations for their hard work.

I was also pleased to recognize Trustee Jerry Jean-Pierre in front of the entire Board and community as my Champion of Diversity for 2026, for his leadership and commitment to the community.

Congratulations to Jaidyn, Sophia and Jerry on these well deserved recognitions!

It was great to attend the opening of the Brumidi Lodge’s Savino/Usak Free Little Library, a wonderful “take a book, leave a book” addition for the community.

The library was named in honor of Director Virginia Usak and Lodge Past Presidents and Directors Bob and Sabrina Savino. Congratulations to the Brumidi Lodge on this meaningful milestone and on the reopening of their newly renovated bar.

At Saturday's Installation dinner, two longtime members of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department were recognized. As a proud member of the department myself, it was especially meaningful to present proclamations to Ex-Chief Frank Pfister for 65 years of service and Ex-Chief Anthony Macaluso for 50 years of service.

Both have dedicated decades to protecting and serving the Deer Park community, setting an outstanding example of leadership, commitment and volunteer service. Congratulations to Frank and Anthony, and thank you for your extraordinary dedication.
