This week, we honor the unseen heroes of public safety: 911 Telecommunicators. These dedicated call takers and dispatchers are the true first responders in our public safety community. Each day, they receive and route thousands of calls for service throughout Broward County. They often navigate uncertain and chaotic situations and ensure our community receives crucial emergency services while protecting our law enforcement and fire rescue personnel.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, please join me in extending a heartfelt thank you to these extraordinary men and women for their outstanding commitment, care and concern for public safety.

As a full-service public safety organization, BSO’s responsibilities do not stop at making arrests and investigating crimes. We also address the aftermath. That is where the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Department of Community Programs (DOCP) delivers measurable results.

DOCP provides structured, accountable alternatives to incarceration that combine supervision, treatment and evidence-based intervention. This approach holds individuals responsible while targeting the root causes of repeat offending. Organized into five specialized divisions, Pretrial Services, Misdemeanor Probation, Drug Court Treatment, Juvenile Services and Reentry, DOCP provides a comprehensive continuum of care to reduce the jail population, save millions of tax dollars in incarceration costs and strengthen public safety across Broward County.
