The heat is gonna take another swing at us today, fortunately the library hours are perfect today from 9 AM to 7 PM if you need to cool down. There has also been a lot of chat on “The Facebook” about severe weather. We are on the extreme southern end of the lowest risk category for severe weather this evening, the more significant chances are up north and by up north, I mean bring your passport up north. This doesn’t mean we won’t see some thunderstorms, but the chances of severe weather is low, but not quite zero.
Now safely merging onto 101 from exit 3, that’s a different story!

Raymond Fire came and helped with our fire on Thursday and today we were able to return the favor. Strong mutual aid partnerships are what keep our communities safe!

Heat update:
Hopefully this is the last day before we get a break. Despite earlier predictions for Thursday being the peak, today might actually be the hottest day. However once we get above 100° heat index does another few degrees really matter?… Anyway, the library and the Community Church both plan to open their doors if you need a place to hide!

Heat update: the library will be open 10-4 tomorrow and the Community Church at 15 Church Street is also making its Great Room available.

Additional reason to be cautious outdoors for the next few days.

NHDES is expecting concentrations of ground-level ozone to reach Code Orange/USG levels for Rockingham County and elevations above 2,000 feet on Wednesday, July 1. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the regions mentioned above may become unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG). NHDES officials advise sensitive individuals to take precautions to protect their health by limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Sensitive individuals include:
-Children and older adults.
-Anyone with lung disease such as asthma, emphysema or bronchitis.
-People who are active outdoors.

Even healthy individuals may experience mild health effects and should consider limiting strenuous or prolonged outdoor activities.

The ozone air pollution event is the result of winds transporting pollutant emissions into New Hampshire from surrounding areas, which combine with local emissions. High temperatures and sunny skies then enhance the creation of ozone from these precursor pollutants. The potential for ozone formation is also being enhanced by smoke from the ongoing wildfires in Canada and the United States. There is potential for high ozone pollution to persist over the next couple of days.

Heat wave update: The library is adding Friday hours to be open 10-4 for a cooling center. Folks are also welcome in the Selectmen’s meeting room during town office business hours.
With heat indexes of 110° this is going to be a significant health risk so be careful the next several days.

Looks like it’s gonna be a bit toasty this week. While we are not doing official cooling centers, the library hours coincide perfectly with the hottest of the weather and they love visitors, both newcomers and old friends!
Be careful outside this week, hydrate and take breaks, even a fit person can easily overheat with the weather we are getting. If you suspect heat stroke call 911 immediately.
