Nurse Nanstad visited Mrs. Peterson's 4K classes this week to teach the kids about proper handwashing techniques. After listening to a story, they rubbed a special lotion all over their hands and looked at them in a special machine (black light) to see the "germs." Then they washed their hands, following the correct steps, and put them back in the machine to see if they did a "good job" washing the germs off! 🦠🫧

5th grade ventured to Aldo Leopold Nature Center today! They practiced survival skills by building a shelter and starting a fire. They also explored the ecosystem of the pond.

Our 2nd graders had a great time at the MacKenzie Center on Monday! They explored the outdoors, climbed an observation tower, saw a variety of animals, and even caught and identified bugs. It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning and discovering more about the world around us!

Second and fifth grade buddies did a getting to know you activity on Friday. Then they beat the rain for a tiny bit and were able to play outside!

Elementary buddies is a cherished tradition at DES that helps build community. 🥰

Cogratulations to our Girls Volleyball Team on advancing to Regionals! Some reminders about tickets as Deerfield hosts this coming Thursday at 7:00pm:
1. Admission is $6 for Adults/Students/Senior Citizens
2. Children under 6 are $1
3. Tickets are available via Bound or can be purchased with cash on Thursday night at the door.

This week, our AP Government students had the opportunity to learn directly from two elected officials. On Tuesday, Senator Ratcliff visited our classroom, and on Thursday, Representative Fitzgerald joined us. Each shared insights about their role in government and the path that led them into public service. Our students engaged thoughtfully and asked great questions, while getting a firsthand look at the role that public officials play in our community.
