Happy rainy Saturday everyone. We are still serving chicken and have plenty left! If you are looking for a quick, easy dinner come get some delicious chicken, 15 dollars for a meal which includes a chicken half, salt potatoes, baked beans, and a dessert!

Hello all, just a couple of announcements.

We have got a new phone number for the station. The New landlines is 315-736-6945.

We are also no longer filling pools when there is a heat advisory in effect so with the high temps we have been experiencing we are a little behind on fills, please bear with us.

Hello and happy Monday everyone. Due to the heat expected this week the officers have decided that all pool fills will be suspended until at least Friday. Our members are our priority and we do not want any heat injuries, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Good afternoon everyone! With the warmer weather being here we have had a drastic increase in requests for pool fills. Anyone who wishes to schedule one please bear with us as we try to catch up. Also please keep in mind that all of our operators are 100% volunteer so pools need to be worked around their availability. Also keep in mind with the warmer days that we do not permit our guys to fill pools on days the temperature breaks 90 degrees or humidity levels are very elevates to avoid any heat related injuries as the Tanker is not equipped with AC. Thank you all for your support and understanding!

Saturday night, the Deferiet Fire Department came together for our annual banquet—a great night to reflect, recognize, and appreciate everything our members have done over the past year.

We want to give a huge thank you to all of our members for your hard work, dedication, and the countless hours you put in year-round. Whether it’s responding to calls, training, or supporting the department behind the scenes, it does not go unnoticed. This department runs because of each and every one of you.

We want to extend our appreciation to the representatives from Senator Mark Walczyk’s office and Assembly man Ken Blankenbush’s office for joining us and showing their continued support. A special thank you to Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Barnett, Deputy Ryan Snyder, Carthage Rescue Squad Chief Amanda Henry, Mayor Nancy Dutton and Trustee Anna Peck for attending as well—we truly value the strong relationships we share in serving our community.

We honored several individuals with Lifesaver Awards, including Chief/EMT-B Troy Babcock, Firefighter/EMT-B Austin Russell, and Deputy Ryan Snyder, recognizing their quick actions and dedication to saving lives at a structure fire in the Village of Deferiet on March 11, 2026 at 12:30pm where a resident was still inside the home.

We also honored the following individuals with Department Awards:

EMS Provider’s of the Year: Joseph Kuehnle and Troy Babcock

Eddie John Nabywaniec Award: John Russell

We’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished together and are looking forward to another great year.

This has been a rough week for the county. We are saddened by the notice of the Passing of Great Bend Fire Past Chief Randy Stevens, as well as the passing of Canon Samuel Lundy.

Past Chief Stevens had a great deal of influence on our current Chiefs, always willing to offer guidance (along with the rest of Great Benda Chiefa) whenever we were questioning if we were doing things right as such a young group of officers.

Canon Samuel Lundy was also a role model in the community, offering his services wherever they may be needed without hesitation. We witnessed Father Sam's work at fun events such as banquets or when he blessed our engine and also at events more heavy on the heart such as funeral services where even in a time of sadness he could always throw in a 1 liner to pick our spirits up and always had the right words to say.

Both of these men were great influences to the community and excellent role models to show the younger generation of what it meant to be compassionate about your service. Both of you will be greatly missed.

Rest easy gentlemen, we will take it from here.
