WHAT IF “STRONG” DIDN’T LOOK THE WAY YOU THINK IT DOES?

Maybe strength is not walking away.

Maybe strength is surviving another night.

Maybe it's hiding the evidence so your children don't see it.

Maybe it's going to work the next morning and pretending everything is normal.

Maybe it's answering “I'm okay” because telling the truth feels more dangerous.

Maybe it's finally whispering, “I need help.”

We often look at victims and ask:

“Why didn't you leave?”

But we rarely ask:

“What did they have to survive just to get to tomorrow?”

Violence doesn't only hurt a person's body.

It can take away their confidence.
Their independence.
Their sense of safety.
Their voice.
Sometimes, even their belief that anyone will believe them.

So if someone finally tells you what is happening, understand what it may have taken for them to say those words.

Don't make them prove their pain.
Don't make them defend their choices.
Don't make them carry your judgment on top of what they're already carrying.

Just listen.

“I believe you.”
“This isn't your fault.”
“You don't have to face this alone.”

Those words may seem small to you.

To someone who has been made to feel powerless, they can mean everything. 💜
