We are excited to welcome The Ability Center to the 2026 Senior Resource & Health Expo! 💙

The Ability Center is dedicated to creating a more disability-friendly community by increasing independence for people with disabilities, removing barriers, and helping individuals live, work, and participate fully in their communities.

And we are especially excited that Defiance County is part of The Ability Center’s 13-county Northwest Ohio service area! 🙌

The Ability Center offers a variety of programs and resources, including:

🏠 Home Accessibility – Home modifications such as ramps, grab bars, stairlifts, and other improvements designed to increase safety and independence.

🦽 Assistive Technology & Medical Equipment – Connecting individuals with disability-related equipment and resources.

🧭 Navigators – Helping individuals and families find the right resources, services, and support when they aren't sure where to start.

💙 Independent Living Services – Supporting individuals in developing skills and confidence to live more independently.

🐕 Assistance Dogs – Providing highly trained assistance dogs that can help individuals achieve greater independence.

📣 Advocacy – Working to remove barriers and promote accessibility in areas such as housing, transportation, health care, and public access.

The Ability Center reminds us that independence looks different for everyone—and having the right resources and support can make all the difference. Their Navigators are available to help individuals and families understand their options and connect with resources.

We are so excited to welcome Putnam County HomeCare & Hospice to our 2026 Senior Resource & Health Expo on Friday, October 16!

Putnam County HomeCare & Hospice has been “Caring for the Whole Journey” since 1966, providing compassionate care and support to individuals and families throughout our communities.

Their services include:

🏡 Home Care – Skilled nursing, therapy, home health aides, and other services designed to help individuals remain safely and comfortably at home.

💙 Hospice Care – Compassionate, comfort-focused care for individuals living with a terminal illness, along with emotional, spiritual, and practical support for families.

🌿 Palliative Care – Support focused on improving comfort and quality of life for those living with serious illness. Palliative care can be provided alongside treatment and is available at home and in other care settings.

🤍 Grief & Bereavement Support – Putnam County HomeCare & Hospice provides ongoing support for individuals and families experiencing loss, including grief counseling and support groups. Their Journeys Grief Support Group offers a place for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one to come together, share, listen, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

Their caring team helps us provide monthly Grief Group meetings and toenail clinics at our center, bringing valuable support and services directly to the seniors and families in our community.

We’re excited to welcome the Alzheimer’s Association to the 2026 Senior Resource & Health Expo!

The Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio Chapter serves 24 counties across Ohio, including Defiance County, providing support and resources for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as their caregivers and families. Their work includes education, support services, advocacy, and advancing research toward better treatments, prevention, and ultimately a cure.

🚶‍♀️💜 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Black Swamp/Defiance

The Alzheimer’s Association also hosts the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an important community event that brings people together to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Walk participants carry flowers representing their personal connections to the disease and the shared hope for a future without Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

If you or someone you love is affected by Alzheimer’s or another dementia, stop by their booth at the Expo to learn more about the resources, education, and support available right here in our community.
