Firefighters from all over Paulding County took the time out of their weekend to come today in a large joint training at our in-county training facility. We were able to utilize the burn building to its full potential today running evolutions to allow members to get comfortable in their gear honed in their skills and get the repeated repetitions of flowing water, allowing them to be better prepared when their community calls on them. Large training like this does not come easily and does not happen overnight. Many people behind the scenes worked hard to get this scheduled. A huge thank you to all the people that worked prior to this and all the instructors who took time out of their weekend to help us hone these skills and better prepare us.

**UPDATE: This watch has expired. No severe threat remains across the area**

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect for the entire area until 2 am Monday morning due primarily to the potential for strong wind gusts up to 70 mph in any one storm.

Large hail half an inch in diameter is also possible (marble sized), with the tornado threat the lowest (but not impossible, of course).

Timeline from earlier looks in tact, with most of the activity west to east from 8p to roughly 3a.

Don’t forget to also change the smoke detector batteries!

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2:00 A.M., when clocks will “spring forward” one hour to Daylight Saving Time. Most people will set their clocks forward before going to bed on Saturday night, March 7, so they wake up at the correct time Sunday morning. . . but WHY?? 🕑️

Many Americans feel that changing clocks is outdated. In recent years, public frustration has fueled political momentum to make either DST or Standard Time permanent. While Congress has not yet passed legislation for permanent DST, states are taking matters into their own hands, and 29 states are actively pursuing some form of permanent time change.

In the U.S., there are some exceptions to DST that already exist: Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation), Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Are you someone who wants to "lock the clock"? Let us know what you think! Almanac.com/states-object-changing-clocks-daylight-saving-time

At approximately 2:48 P.M. we were dispatched to a field fire on State Route 66 by Road 178. Two local farmers were able to help bring the wind driven blaze under control, as well as our members and members from Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD). Without the quick help of these farmers, the fire could have caused significantly more damage.

With the dry conditions in our area, paired with the consistently high winds, please be cautious on how we dispose of cigarette butts, and refrain from burning leaves, yard debris, and other household items.

To the farmers out in the field finishing up harvest, please consider having some cultivating equipment on stand-by. These large pieces of equipment can mean the difference between a few acres and hundreds of acres being burnt.

Thank you to all the members and neighbors who keep this community safe.
