Regular Meetings: Meetings are held to discuss current issues and special needs related to housing and homelessness issues in our communities. Continuum Of Care: A community plan to assure that effective supportive services are in place to meet the needs of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Point In Time Homeless Count: An organized effort to gather accurate data about the number of homeless and at risk persons in our community on a given day. The point in time count is conducted by coalition members and volunteers twice each year. Information is used to educate, and to improve and expand available community resources. Education and Advocacy: The Housing Coalition organizes and supports opportunities to educate members and the community about issues related to housing and homelessness by scheduling speakers and supporting community events such as “The Hunger Banquet” and “A Night Without A Home”. Coordinated Entry: A collaborative effort to establish easily identifiable access points and coordinated standardized assessment of homeless service needs within our six county area.

What does it mean to be literally homeless?

It means a man, women, veteran, elderly individual, child, or family are sleeping outside on park benches, in tents or campers, at local emergency shelters, in their car, or places that are not made to live in like a porch or shed.

There were 60 literally homeless people in Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Williams, Paulding and Van Wert Counties calling these types of places home at the 2018 national January Point in Time count. We'll take the new count this Tuesday.

Contact Susan Cheeseman at [email protected] for more information or to join in the efforts.
