My battle may be over, but there is still more work to be done! Congresswoman Lauren Underwood is still fighting for her seat. She's currently down a little, but there are thousands of mail-in ballots still to be counted. The campaign is asking for experienced poll-watchers to help ensure that the remaining counting is fair. If you can help, please contact me or Lauren's campaign. This is a fight we can, and need to win!

It is with some sadness and disappointment that I have to report that we came up short in the vote totals yesterday. I congratulate Jeff on his convincing victory, and wish him luck going forward. I also encourage him to listen to all his constituents, not just those who voted for him, as a true measure of the bipartisanship he ran on.

I want to say that even though we didn't prevail, I am very proud of the race we ran. We ran a clean campaign, focused exclusively on the positive changes we wanted to bring to Springfield. I have been extremely encouraged and buoyed by all the support we received. When you start a journey like this, you're on your own and have no idea if anyone will be interested in following you. I've been blessed by all of you who wished me well, voted for me, volunteered on the campaign, and were able to find it in your hearts (and checkbooks) to donate to the cause. I want to especially thank several people who stepped up, without even being asked, to play major roles. Supervolunteers John McFarland and Carmen Polvere; Jackie Schmack as our communications director; her husband Richard for logistical support; Mike Hentschel and Melissa Gallagher for helping with our town hall; graphics guru Julia Fauci; our Treasurer Julie Roberts; and most of all my campaign manager, Randi Olson whose unwavering faith and non-stop hard work made this entire endeavor possible. Thanks also to our "kitchen cabinet" of advisors, which included all of the above, along with Steve Faivre, Dave Simpson, and Ellingsworth Webb. The county parties in Boone, DeKalb, and Kane were wonderful to work with, and even though last night was disappointing, I know that they will continue to fight for us, long and hard.

In all likelihood, this was my last campaign. After spending the first 3 years of my retirement from NIU running for office, I think it's time for a break. Plus, I suspect family pressures will start demanding more and more of my time. It's been a pleasure getting to know and working with all of you. I look forward to shifting the relationship from a political to a social one.

Again, thank you for all your support.

Something to keep in mind - The presidential race has sucked up most of our election coverage. Understandable. But there are other very important races on the ballot. Remember - the farther down the ballot you go, the more those races impact your daily life. So don't forget to vote on the fair tax amendment, Senator, congresspeople, state legislators (!), and county officials today.

Hi everyone!

It's been a long race, and all that's left is the final voting and tallying. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who phone banked, dropped lit, attended our virtual events, donated, put out a sign, and just supported us! (And if you haven't done so yet - DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!) Whatever the outcome, I think we can all be proud of our message and the race we ran.
Thanks for everything!

By most recent calculations, some 3,000 Vote By Mail Ballots are still outstanding in DeKalb County. We all want to make sure that everyone has the chance to make their wishes known at the voting booth.

If you requested a Mail In Ballot, but have not yet received it, please contact the County Clerk’s Office at 815-895-7147 as soon as possible. Their office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you are in receipt of a Mail In Ballot but haven’t yet used it, you have several options.

1 Closely following the instructions, fill in your ballot, place it in the envelopes as instructed, stamp it, and take it to your local post office to make sure it is postmarked in front of you. In Illinois the County Clerk has 2 weeks after Election Day to receive and count ballots that have been postmarked by November 3rd.

2 If you do not want to mail in your ballot because of time concerns, you may fill in your ballot, closely following instructions, place it in the envelopes as instructed and take it to the Administration Building at 110 East Sycamore Street, Sycamore, IL 60178. In the lobby of that building you will find a secure box into which you can place your filled in ballot on or before election day. This lobby will only be open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

3 You may also take your uncompleted or completed ballot with all the envelopes and instructions to an early voting site, or to your polling place on Election Day and surrender that ballot in order to receive a new ballot there. The election judge will have to fill in an affidavit that you have surrendered your mail in ballot, in order to ensure that you aren’t trying to vote twice.

I first met the future Congresswoman when I was chair of the DeKalb Dems, and she was just starting her journey. I gave her my honest assessment of her chances - pretty bleak. But nevertheless, she persisted and blew away her competition. I am so thrilled to have her as a friend, and to have her endorsement. A truly amazing woman!
