DeKalb County Community Action Program

DeKalb County Community Action Program Community Action is a program within Family Service Agency dedicated to serving low-income families.

We are a program within Family Service Agency of DeKalb County. The focus of Community Action is to help families residing in DeKalb County who are experiencing poverty achieve and maintain a higher level of self-sustainability. We work with families to achieve this outcome through a variety of services. The first step in working with a family is to complete a thorough assessment. Our family suppo

rt specialists schedule a meeting and sit down with families to discuss their overall situation in detail. During this process, the family support specialist and family get a sense of what the urgent needs are and how best to address the needs. It is then determined what services offered through Community Action would benefit the family best. Since self sustainability is the outcome, families benefit most from our ongoing comprehensive support services. Comprehensive support services consist of the family and family support specialist intensively work on setting goals and making action plans to meet these goals. Incentives may be available for those successfully progressing in the program. Learn more about our FSA's other services on our website: www.fsadekalbcounty.org.

Our Summer Pantry Donation Drive kicks off tomorrow! ☀️📦

From June through September, we'll be collecting themed donations to help keep the Shelf-Help Essentials Pantry stocked for DeKalb County families. While each week has a suggested theme, we gladly accept donations that are on-theme or off-theme.

A few reminders:

• Donations must be unexpired and unopened
• Partial packs are welcome for certain items
• Open packages of diapers? We'll take them!
• Bought a yogurt flavor nobody in your house likes? We'll take that too!
• Extra pantry items, hygiene products, household supplies, and baby essentials are always appreciated

The weekly themes are simply meant to provide ideas and highlight areas of greatest need. If you have something else to donate, chances are we'll be happy to put it to good use.

Thank you for helping us support local families throughout the summer. 💚

Please join us in congratulating Abigail Hesslau on her graduation from the DeKalb Chamber Leadership Academy! 🎉

Abigail now joins a growing list of Family Service Agency alumni who have completed the program and continue to use their leadership skills to strengthen our community. We are proud of her commitment to professional growth and grateful for the passion, knowledge, and leadership she brings to our team every day.

Congratulations, Abigail! 👏🌻
