DeKalb County ROE

DeKalb County ROE The DeKalb ROE provides a number of vital services for DeKalb county school districts from bus safety and licensure to professional development.

The DeKalb ROE provides annual health/life safety inspections of county schools, required bus safety training, fingerprinting and background checks for educators and substitute teachers. In addition, we make sure teachers are ready for the classroom by monitoring and issuing educator licenses. Professional development which we provide keeps educators in tune with not only state standards but up-to

-date best practices to help all students succeed and be prepared for real-world challenges. Schools must also work with our office to ensure that they are in compliance with federal and state standards. The DeKalb ROE issues the GED or High School Equivalency Certificate to those who have successfully completed the exam. The Safe School Program is another part of our outreach efforts and provides students suspended or expelled from their schools and others an alternative learning environment to help meet their educational needs. Schools must additional submit their calendar, show their assessment and instruction plans to meet ISBE Quality Assurance guidelines throughout each school year. We make hundreds of visits to schools throughout the year to ensure that our schools are providing the education called for under state law.

Being trauma-informed is one thing. Translating that knowledge into daily practice, minute-to-minute interactions, and quick decisions is another — and it's hard.

Join us for this interactive training presented by Chaddock, grounded in their Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program (DTAP®), where you'll learn to:
-Explain why adult regulation is a vital first step in responding to student behaviors
-Strengthen the foundation of relationships and safety with students
-Recognize Midbrain activation in students
-Identify interventions to help students regain Cortex accessibility
-Support students who may be functioning in their Back Brain

All teachers, truancy workers, ALOP Advocates, and counselors are encouraged to attend!

Building Thinking Classrooms comes to Hiawatha!

Mimi had a blast introducing the Building Thinking Classrooms framework by Peter Liljedahl to Hiawatha teachers during their institute day! This innovative approach is transforming how students engage with math and problem-solving.
