This is a letter that the District Board is publishing requesting your opposition to Proposition HH on this years ballot. We strongly urge you to vote no on this issue as it will severely effect fire protection in our community.

The Del Norte Fire Protection District is opposing Proposition HH on the November 2023 ballot and asking voters to vote NO as well! If this proposition passes the Del Norte Fire Protection District, as well as all special districts, will lose between 10%-15% of their funding within the next 3 years. Our Fire Protection District operates on a very limited budget and a reduction in taxes collected will result in a reduction in services that the Fire Protection District is able to offer. The language used in Proposition HH is very confusing and attempts to convince the voters that it is property tax relief. In reality most property owners will see significant tax increases within the next 5 years. The passage of Proposition HH will end all TABOR refunds. Proposition HH will allow state legislatures to disburse funds without the vote of the people. Local control will be gone and the Governor and Legislature will control our local funds. Please do not be deceived by the confusing language of a proposal that takes away local control. Proposition HH will have a detrimental effect on this community and the ability to provide fire protection services to you, the residents of the Del Norte Fire Protection District!

The Del Norte Fire Department is selling 4’ x 12’ sections of hardwood flooring. This is the gym floor that was in the Tiger Field house in Del Norte. The planks of hardwood are at least 1” thick and are maple. They are stapled to the support beams that supported the floor. Price is $125 per section. It is with heavy hearts that Joes Fire Department in Yuma County CO lost Fire Fighter Larry Wyant in a fire yesterday afternoon.
A fire sparked from a combine in a corn field by Highway 36 and Co.Rd T in southern Yuma County. Crews battled high winds 30mph with 60mph gusts and wind direction changed multiple times. It was the change in winds suddenly that led to fire fighter Larry Wyant to be taken by the running fire. Crews were there with in minutes, however it was already to late. Prayers are needed for Larry Wyant’s family as well as Joes Fire Department at this time!

DNFD is saddened by the loss of Firefighter Darcy Stallings in Yuma Colorado. Firefighter Stallings was tragically killed in an auto accident while responding to a call. Please keep Firefighter Stallings family and the Yuma Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragic loss.
