Quick update on one of our newest United States Security Forces Airman!
Hello everyone, it’s me again, just trying to give a little update on how my journey is going haha! I just wanted to share something that happened to me and it was super amazing. As many of you already know, my name is Jesus Cruz, I am 19 years old and I am in the Air Force. First generation in my family who was born in the United States, my parents and all my family live in Mexico. I grew up in the small town of Acuña and Del Rio. My native language is Spanish, I didn't really learn English until I was like 13 years old, and I never spoke it until I was 17. One of the biggest reasons I never did was because so many people would made fun of me for my Mexican accent, which is super noticeable. A little over half a year ago I decided to join the USAF as a Security Forces member. However, in this short amount of time my perspective of the world changed completely, I realized how big this world is and all the different cultures in it. Currently I have friends all over the US, however I also have friends from South Korea, Mongolia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Bulgaria, Germany, Micronesia, Africa, and of course Mexico. I am currently living in Germany, I have been trying to learn German and so far it has been something truly spectacular. Well, yesterday I was working with the German police at a post where I ran into truck drivers from all over Europe and just then a Portuguese truck driver arrived who didn't speak neither English nor German. As you know Portuguese and Spanish are not the same but they are similar, so there I am - trying to make a Portuguese and a German understand each other, the best of all is that if I succeed, I made a Portuguese understand German. Never in my life did I imagine doing something like this!! I always lived with a complex about my accent, wanting to try to erase it or not make it so noticeable. But today I am proud of that, because it reminds me of where I come from, my family, the effort my parents made to make me the person I am, and it makes me reflect on how far someone can go if they put their minds to it!!
P.S. I love the sunsets here 🇺🇸 🇲🇽 🇩🇪
