So I’d like to clear up a couple misconceptions I’ve heard from some of my recruits regarding how the Air Force recruiting process works.
1. Jobs: you get a list of jobs based on your ASVAB score and you list 8-10 jobs and an aptitude area. So we don’t just pick a job out of a hat on your behalf, you get a say on what jobs you want. Also we have 140 different jobs from just about everything you would find in a small city and then some.
2. ASVAB Scores: yes, long ago the cut off score was 50 to join the Air Force. But things have changed and the current cut off score is 31, currently the minimum for all the branches.
3. Sign on bonuses: We do have them but not to the degree of some the other branches. Most of ours are for open Mechanical or special forces jobs. That being said I would like to put something into perspective. While we don’t have a lot in the way of sign on bonuses/re-enlistment bonuses, we still have the highest re-enlistment rate of 44%. The next highest branch has a 28% re-enlistment rate but some of the biggest bonuses. The Air Force has always been about fixing its problems with retention instead of just throwing money at it. We give our Airman the best of the best of everything, so that when the time comes they want to stay with us for another enlistment and even up to 20 years.
4. You start earning college credits the moment you start BMT. You don’t have to wait until your first enlistment to be up to start going to college.
So if for one reason or another you were misinformed on how his process works and now have questions, Feel free to call or message me and I will gladly answer any questions you have.
Also, if you ask another BRANCH about how the AIR FORCE does business, please believe it will be swayed to favor them!
